Whatever happened to trying again? Posted on 07-12-2004

I saw this quote in the other thread and I feel that. . .
Quote:
exaclty. All dumb stereotypes. Mostly spread by GDI's tryna start some mess. The same thing happened with the K's on my yard. they didnt even want a 85 girl line, they only wanted 30 and the thirty that they chose i heard were on point and smart too. But grad chapter stepped in and made them accept more females b/c dumb broads wanna call nationals. if they dont want u, try again, if u get rejected twice, they probably dont want u
I HATE seeing graduate chapters do that to undergraduate chapters. I'm in a grad chapter now, but we seldom interfere with the undergrads and their process, unless they've been hazing. I have seen sororities add thirty and forty women to lines. And it ALWAYS causes problems. This past year, the alumni chapter of a sorority added about 11 or 12 new girls at the last minute (a few days before the coming out show) and these girls did not step in the probate and were publicly disrespected during the probate. What do you all think about this?

Wow, thats something. Grad chapters are getting ridiculous with that. All they care about is money now. Pledging is a privelege, not something that just anybody can join. I heard One AKA on here say that they had 300 girls at their rush and her line was nowhere near 100 and i think thats good. selectiveness. Other girls will see that and then know that it isnt an organization u can just easily get into. Most girls would probably choose something easier to join, but others will keep on trying b/c they want it and only it

We have a remedy for that kind of mess. Ever met a Delta whose line name is Addendum? Or what about Add-on? LOL But seriously, the grad chapter usually brings in girls after there are no other big sisters on the yard after a lengthy suspension or moratorium.

I don't agree with public disrespecting your sister/brother either, that's chapter business. Remember, messed-up line names only alerts people to the fact that there is a splintered chapter. I'd rather that person not have a name or a number. Truthfully, alumni chapters really just need to quit sticking their noses in undergrads business all the time. With the absence of a legacy clause, not everyone deserves to be greek at the time that they pledge. However the attitude from alumni chapters towards college chapters is reflective of the general attitude of "civil-rights age" blacks vs the "hip-hop age" blacks anyway.

Last time I checked... Grad chapters were there to advise and assist with the undergrads. I don't think they should be able to jump in and just add bodies like that. Its not fair and somewhat underminds the ones in charge of the undergrads intake. Thats a mess... addin girls and lettin get their faces played like that at the probate.

I've only seen it happen in two sororities and one fraternity. It caused a big mess, and I actually felt sympathy for the person who got into the chapter that way.

That was me, a little over 300 came to our rush but only 28 of us crossed. I don't see the point in having undergrad intake if the grad chapter is going to do everything. Only if there has been reported hazing should grad chapter step in, just my opinion. 8)

Having no line name or messed up numbers is worse to me. I knew an AKA with 100% guaranteed b/c she was legacy. She be walkin around proud with her name and number on her jacket.

From what I'm reading it seems like some Grad Chapter members forgot they were undergrads at one point in time.
