Take the Field Mission Statement
Take the Field captures, via the documentary film medium, the history and experience of the marching band and music programs at some of America’s most dynamic colleges.
While the bands and music programs at America’s Historically Black Colleges and Universities have been recognized and awarded musically for decades, the bands have not benefited from the level of media attention their programs deserve. Due to the nature of television coverage, HBCU bands rarely enjoy national broadcasts more than twice a year. Take the Field aims to remediate the deficiency in that coverage and exposure.
Take the Field is also dedicated, through the use of apprenticeships and internships, to promoting and advancing the participation of students, artists, technicians and craftspeople in the art of filmmaking.
Take the Field, Inc. has and will continue to make charitable donations to benefit HBCU band and music programs, HBCU Scholarship Funds and the Junior Academy of Black Arts and Letters
