Yesterday afternoon, I ws flipping through the channels and I stumbled on a news conference with P.Diddy, who is trying to help motivate college students, especially minorities, to vote in the up coming election. He said he was going to use all of his contacts and marketing abilities to influence young adults to vote. Do you all think he has enough pull to make our generation get up and vote? And on another note, will you or have you registered for you absentee ballot if you are attending school away from home?
Wondering... would the type of person who requires the influence of P. Diddy's marketing machine get them to get up and vote... actually do the legwork towards knowing the issues and making an informed decision?
I appreciate the effort nonetheless. 8) Holla!
^^^That's a very good point. I didn't think of that. The majority would probably just take whatever Diddy said about the candidates as fact and not even question it because of who he is. Does Diddy have enough pull to change anyone's political stance? Probably not.
Can his words get people off the couch to vote? I doubt he could get enough to make a significant change in the results.
It could be a gimmick but I still think that it will make more people in the hip hop generation vote. I have always said that rappers/ entertainers have great power in the community and any steps towards actually using that power for good, are good with me. So I say go Diddy do what you have to do.
Sidenote** Can anyone else see Diddy running for some type of political office in 10 years. **shurgs** maybe it's just me
I am hoping that somehow, by him stepping up and talking about it, young people will get curious and try to learn about it first. However the more I think about it, the less likely that is to happen.
As far as P.Diddy running for office, I can see that happening in the next ten or twenty years as his fan base gets older. I can see him starting small like alderman or mayor or something and trying to work up to the bigger roles.
Well, I have always respected P more than any other rap cat in the game. I mean the things he is doing with Sean Jean and how he raised all that money for Harlem really shed a new light on him. Not to mention his endeavors in acting in a historical African American play. I think its cool he is taking it upon himself to see that young people get more involved in the voting process. Honestly, I don't think it will work. Well, maybe, but he'll have to bribe the kids or something. You know like, whoever votes is automatically qualified to live like P. Diddy for a day and they get one of his new navigators on 25's with a Playstation 2 and a DVD player in the car......... .....what a shame. But anyways, if P got enough rap cats in the game to express the importance of voting, it might could work. However, knowing my people like I know them, it would prolly be a new "trend." By the next pres election, that trend would've played itself out. I hope it works though, and I plan on voting in the upcoming election............but not because P says so.
I could definitely see myself voting for P in the future......he just needs to mature more in a political sense.
