I know we can all tell that this year, there has been the biggest effort I have ever seen as far as getting young blacks out to the polls to vote in this election. Everything from Puffy and all celebrities with the "vote or die" campaign, to all of the events on our campuses to promote us to vote. Now my question is...do you feel that all of this campaigning will work this year? Personally, I think it will definitely work at some of the colleges like FAMU where there has been a very strong effort to get the students out to vote. However, I feel that in the black neighborhoods, especially the lower class ones, the number of voters will not change by that much.
Just to add on to that, at first I was a lil nervous about this election. Then I remebered, 90% of them bammas (trailor trash included) aint gon wanna get up or wait in a line ALL DAY just to cast their vote. Now im breathing easy again
Well, I know a whole bunch of unregistered voters and I understand. People just force people to vote justify their reasons with Bush's mess. The whole vote or die crap is so ridiculously stupid because you vote for the simple reason of getting Bush out of office Give me a reason to vote without using Bush in the equation and I will. Think about it.
I'm hoping for a good voter turn out regardless of who the voters ar evoting for. I was reading voter statistics in this week's campus newspaper and it said that ninety percent of the students were registered to vote. I was all proud and stuff 'cause the black people got registered. Then I went to American Gov't and my professor announced to the class thqat according to past campus political records only one person in the whole class will vote. I was sittin' in a class of eighty people. One in 80 people on campus voted in the last presidential election. Our campus at that time had 4,000 and some change students. Now the student population has double to about 8,000. But it would be awfully sad to see that statistic decrease to 1 in 160.
I hope so. What is being done is Tallahassee is that Churches are going as a group to vote directly after service. We did it today, after service was over, we boarded a charter bus and went to Leon County Courthouse to vote, and then we came back to the church and ate. The majority of our youth went also, and the one who were under 18 still voted because they had a kid's voting booth to teach the kids about the voting process.
