WE HAD TO DISCUSS THIS IN CLASS TODAY. THE TOPIC WAS DO YOU FEEL THAT BLACK ENTERTAINMENT MEANING MOSTLY COMEDY IS MAKING THE ENTERTAINERS OUT TO BUFFOONS. AN EXAMPLE WAS MARTIN'S SHOW (BEST SHOW EVER), HOW HE I GUESS ACTED CRAZY AND JUST OFF THE WALL. AND HOW COAL WAS ACTIN DUMB ALL THE TIME. WELL I FEEL THAT SOMETIMES ENTERTAINERS PUSH IT TO A BUFFOONERY LEVEL BUT ITS JUST ENTERTAINMENT. THEY HAVE A FLYER AT HOWARD SAYING TO BOYCOTT BET. CUZ IT SAYS THERE IS MORE TO BLACKS THAN WHAT YOU SEE ON BET. THIS IS TRUE BUT SHOULD WE NOT SUPPORT BLACKS IN WHAT EVER THEY DO. WE ARE THE ONLY RACE THAT DOESNT SUPPORT OUR ON RACE. INSTEAD OF SAYING IM NOT GONNA WATCH THAT ENTERTAINER BECAUSE HE IS MAKING BLACKS LOOK BAD, WE SHOULD BE LIKE IM GONNA SUPPORT HIM REGARDLESS. WE DONT SUPPORT FAMOUS BLACK PEOPLE AND GO SEE THEM SPEAK, WE DONT SUPPORT BLACK ARTIST AND BUY THERE MUSIC, WE DONT GO SEE BLACK MOVIES LIKE WE SHOULD. I THINK BLACKS CAN BE MORE SELFISH THAN OTHER RACES. AND THIS IS WHY I THINK WE ARENT DOING AS WELL AS OTHER RACES.

I agree wholeheartedly that too much of todays black entertainment is borderline buffonery if not just blatant outright ignorance, ESPECIALLY BET :evil: .
Turn on BET at random points during the day & you will see either
1)Music Videos
2)Comic View
There is something wrong with this picture. The majority of BETs programing is music videos and their is def. more to our culture than what most of these videos portray anyway. Lets not go back into the vault and bring up such failures as "Oh Drama". College Hill, though i admit i haven't seen it yet(no cable @bowie) looks to be just as ignorant. If am wrong, please somone give their opinion. It seems as if BET just doesn't want to bring quality programming to the community, maybe that new network will step up.
BET is not the only culprit. Look at some of our movies,mostly comedy. If they are not ignorant then they are cookie-cutter films that are becoming exceedingly repatative. I won't even get into music yet because i will be typing all night. The good entertainment we do produce, does not get the support it deserves. Simply stated 'it doesn't sell'.
I'm all for supporting black business but NOT ones that are doing more harm than good to the community. Why should I support someone that has nothing good to say or worse, someone who just wants to see more cash rolling in for them not caring if they have to poision their own community to get it?

i feel you on this issue. yeah i feel that all entertainment, meaning comedy, is boderline buffoonery. and that goes for white and black entertainment. but it seems that when blacks do it .. it kinda seems to be exploited more. so we need to be more careful about what we put on tv. on the other hand if we were to put so called quality programs on bet there would just be more out of work black folks. cuz good programs dont sell. so thats why i feel that we should try to support more than anything. more of on the concept of if you cant beat them join them. and if this new network comes out trying to do this good programming baloney then its gonna leave just some more blacks out of work and the network will be no more. but we have to look at it as just entertainment, meant to entertain. but sadly whites look at it as a true example of blacks. we just need to stress that it is just entertainment, and if our community wants the truth then start reading books and history. STOP LOOKING FOR THE TRUTH IN ENTERTAINMENT!!!

Its up to us to change it. Lets start a petition for better programming that represents us as a whole.
