What was one of the most memorable moments during your college days; be it funny, sad, uplifting, exciting, etc?
One of my funniest, is when someone hit a transformer and put the entire block in a blackout. Everybody was walking around, and we couldn't see ANYTHING, all over the campus. Needless to say, people made strange bedfellows that night.
The funny part was, I had just lost my last contact, and I was broke. So I couldn't see anything or anybody that entire night (I'd also broken my back-up glasses).
Hmmm...so many to name, but what really stands out is the Magic City Classic.
In my senior year. I was part of this student recruitment organization called University Echoes, and as long as I did my volunteer work and attended the meetings, then I was allowed to participate in The Classic with all expenses paid. Basically, our purpose was to present ourselves as good representatives for our institution.
Anyway, I remember when some of my friends and I had to dress up to go to an opening ceremony downtown, and we went to an event where the two football teams and other people ate in a semi-formal luncheon.
Also, we had a chance to go to the Tom Joyner Morning Show, but we had to wake up super-early to get ready. We were headed backstage, and we got the chance to meet Rickey Smiley, but a lady said that we couldn't stay backstage, so we had to be with the audience. As we watched the show, they had this dancing contest when mostly old-heads (no disrespect) competed to win a prize (I forgot what it was). Meanwhile, it was this middle-aged heavy-set lady with a cane, and when the music started playing, she was wobblin', twirkin', and droppin' it like it's hot and everything! It was hilarious.
Somehow, when we showed up at the Marriott, someone didn't make reservations on time, and all of the rooms were booked, so we had to find another place to stay. After that, I and a person I was rooming with overslept, and so we missed our chance to be in the parade , but it was all good.
When a group of us went to the football game, I was assigned to the VIP section of the stadium, where I could converse with the president and some alumni who contributed a lot of funds to my school. Then something happened, so I was moved to the ticket booth. From there, I missed the first half of the game and the halftime show, and by the time I was through, it was like six minutes left in the third quarter. I was so mad!
But I really can't complain about anything, because at least the org. allowed me to go to the game and other functions for free, so I didn't have to worry about ending up with overdrafted fees the following week.
Besides, out of the 4 times that I went to the Magic City Classic, AAMU won 3 games (GO BULLDOGS ). During that time, I had the chance to bond with people from both schools (AAMU & ASU), especially with the people I was with. I love the Magic City Classic, and I miss the rivalry. I wish I can go back soon.
