What REALLY is "Greek Stuff" Posted on 01-24-2005

(based off of the too Eager for Nalia post) i'm curious... what EXACTLY is greek stuff. Frankly, being greek myslef I'm beginning to realize that there are way too many people within our respective organizations that are loosing sight of what it really means to be part of our respective orgs. I mean I understand there are things that we do on college campuses as Greek Lettered organizations however, i strongly doubt that our founders were party hopping, strolling, or wearing windbreaker/jackets with clever nicknames on them from jump. Now... i'm not saying that there is anything wrong with these above because there isn't, however, within the realm of college campuses are we REALLY entitled to them exclusively and is it me or does it seem that at times we kinda Deebo the rights to do these things exclusively. I see nowhere in our constitution, various governing documents, or even within our rituals that mention our right to be able to do any of the above or even comment on their RELEVANCE to our existance however, there are some people who argue up and down on why on Greeks should be entitled to these things. My question to the rest of you, is what actually is "Greek Life" and for those of you part of your respective orgs, what does it mean to you?

BGLO's do not have the copyright to: handsigns, strolling, nalia, brands. etc.. They only have the copyright to the handsign, letters of there respective organizations.
It's their, not there. No we certainly don't own any copyrights to those things. Still doesn't mean we can recognize when someone has borrowed.

Handsigns, Nalia, Stroling, Brands, etc..is the icing on the cake for someone who just crossed yes, but the cake isn't just meant for greeks alone..
I think there you meant to say icing. The actual cake refers to the inherent purpose of the organization. If you are going to borrow. Then please borrow correctly.

You are truly makin an assumption there. Don't assume if you don't know..
What am I assuming about? Perhaps you don't understand the definition of the word nor. Let's study: nor A logical operator that consists of a logical OR followed by a logical NOT and returns a true value only if both operands are false. I am making a general statement. It is coherent in all facets. If the shoe fits then wear it.

Question: How do you feel about Non "Divine Nine" BGLO's or Latino/Latina GLO's with handsigns/call/strolls/ nalia etc..? examples: Tau Beta Sigma Kappa Kappa Psi Phi Mu Alpha Sigma Alpha Iota Sigma Lambda Gamma Sigma Lambda Beta Phi Delta Psi Sigma Phi Rho or organizations like Swing Phi Swing or Groove Phi Groove???
The same way as I've stated previously. I make no distinction with regard to color, intent or makeup of the organization. Anything else I can help you with today?

Just curious. Which organization's rituals are you referring to?
My organization obviously (check the sig). I know very little about your rit outside of things that are very general and across the board (which is another subject in itself), however, i strongly doubt there is a part in it that mentions line jackets for example. See where i'm coming from? I still see little holes here and there, however, I do understand most of what you are saying. I'll let others speak on the topic before I address them tho.
