I think you will be fine because your gpa exceeds the min. requirement.
If you have a good ACT score and write a good essay, you will be fine! I think you should apply because most likely you will get in and if not you can always get in on academic prohbation, but I think there is a 99 percent chance you will get in! Good Luck!!!!!
Don't stress urself out over nothing. Lots of people go through rough times and thier grades drop. Mines did the same thing and my GAP was a 2.8 for a long time. I even got accpeted to Howard and Xavier with a 2.8 **** because they say that my grades were improving and I did fairly well on the ACT. if there is an essay portion of the test that allows you to have a free write then use it to explain ur situation. If the school doesn't require an essay still provide one. You have nothing to worry about. Fill out the application. DOn't let anthing discourage u from applying to ur dream school. Hey girl! Dont worry about it!!! I'm in the same boat as u! CAU is my #1 choice but due 2 some situations like being ill and taking the wrongs classes I'm kinda worried that they'll reject me! I have back-ups and plan on transferring the next year if i don't get in. You just gotta put yourself out there! Call them!! E-mail them!!! GO visit them! I've been visiting them 3 summers in a row! Find out what admissions person will be looking at your app... and keep in touch with them!!! Tell them everything! Basically u have 2 advertise! SO DON'T GIVE UP!!!

You are alright, just have a well written essay about how getting into that college means the world to you and your goals in life are, a good Sat/Act score (to show them that you aren't dumb) and a great last year of school. Most colleges know that either your 9th or 10th grade year, you'll find a way to mess up so they are kinda nice about those years on your transcript but the last two years are the crucial years. Right now I have a 83.5 GPA but I should have at least a 88,89 GPA. But like you, I had to get back on the ball and do what I was sappose to do. And my class rank has took a nose dive. I'm number 77 in a class of 198. Everyone in my class have a freakin' B average and they just happen to be above mine. Anyway, you'll be fine.
added bonus.. if you are a dancing girl or band member. they could always get somemore people, since you are a beutiful looking girl. you shouldn't have a problem doing that nether.
When all else fails, Johnson C. Smith will accept you. They aren't a bad school so just look into them. The campus is nice and not everywhere like most campuses. plus it's in Charlotte. you can't beat that.

IVE ALWAYS WANTED TO GO TO CAU EVER SINCE MY FRESHMAN YEAR BUT OVER THE YEARS I HAVE BEEN HAVING A LOT OF PERSONAL PROBLEMS AND MY GPA DROPPED TO AN ALL TIME LOW A 2.1 (I KNOW ITS BAD) BUT IM NOT STUPID AT ALL I JUST HAD SO MANY PROBLEMS. LIKE MY SOPHMORE YEAR IN HIGH SCHOOL I ATTENDED 4 HIGH SCHOOLS ALL IN THE SAME YEAR. IT WAS HARD FOR ME. IM WORRIED THAT NO ONE WILL ACCEPT ME WITH A 2.1 AND TO TOP MATTERS OFF WORSE I GOT A 16 ON MY ACT :cry: I BELIEVE THATS BECAUSE I WORKED THE NIGHT BEFORE TILL MIDNIGHT AND I REALLY DIDNT GET ANY SLEEP. Girl, don't sweat that small stuff. Getting into college is about a lot more than just grades and test scores, that's why they ask to look at other things like extracurricular activities, work experience, and an essay about yourself, etc. If you really want to go to Southern then visit the school, get to know the admissions office, or at least call them very often (like I did CAU), explain to them your situation, I am sure they will be willing to work something out with you. Just make sure you keep your grades on track, because most schools (yes even the HBCU's) want a final transcript, just so they know you are still dedicated, and senioritis didn't kick in. GIRRLLL you should still apply to CAU!!! just write a really good personal statement, you never know what can happen, like someone said earlier some schools accept people whose GPA is below the admission standards so don't give up. I'll pray for you 8)
