what would u do if these were your options:
---going to your dream school and borrowing lots of $$$$ (Spelman)
----OR----
---going to a school your parents can afford even though you'll probably go there for almost free (LSU)
is it worth going into debt just to go to the school of your choice when you know you'll probably be borrowing $$$$ for med. school someday? help!

I RECIEVED A LETTER IN THE MAIL FROM SOUTHERN ABOUT MY FINANCIAL AID AND IT SAID:

IS THAT GOOD OR BAD? I DONT REALLY UNDERSTAND IT. MY MOM WONT KNOW EITHER.

Wait on the other schools unless you REALLY wanna go to Southern. Black schools are notorious for having horrible financial aid unless ur a freakin genius and get scholarships. Basically they gave u $1800 and really u have to work for that. those PLUS loans, watch out for those...your parents start paying for that as soon as ur freshman year is over.
Unless you REALLY wanna go to Southern and don't mind taking out a bunch of loans, look at some other schools as well. Ask Southern if they have other options of payments (such as installment payments which allow u to spread tuition out over the semester instead of paying it all at one time)

yeah i think i'm starting to lean towards lsu (unfortunately). UNO (university of new orleans) offered me a nice little scholarship too but i haven't responded yet cuz i'm still waiting on spelman....or the gates millennium (i can't spell) scholarship. my cousin got that and goes to xavier for free...must be nice

Lol. Yeah, I agree. I want to go to Howard, and I 100% would be if i got just 1 point higher on my ACT because they would have given me a full scholarship... -sigh-. I gotta take it one more time and if i don't get that 26 i'm going to have to go to a PWI for my first year b/c they're kicking out 13 G's. I just don't wanna be in a steep debt when i get out of school so i'd say go to LSU.
I was in the SAME predicment last year b4 going to school.
I got accepted to Tuskegee, Howard, and Southern Il (the school Tiph goes 2).
My mom wanted me to go to Southern IL and stay instate, but i didnt wanna stay instate. Tuskegee gave me the most money,Howard the less. I really didn't know 2 much about the Tuskegee if I did i wouldn't came here. But to make a long story short I hate Tuskegee and im transferrin to Howard (my dream school) in the fall, and takin out loans. Yea i kno its gonna be hell payin for it but I don't wanna be at school just cause it was cheaper and hate it. I rather enjoy myself and plus Howard is a waaaaaaaay better school.
