I don't feel Blacks should feel the need to cater to the White world, but this is reality and Blacks are judged by their "ethnic names" before the interview. I don't really have to go through that, but it still frustrates me when I hear that my people are being profiled because of their name. That's ridiculous.

i wouldn't give my child an ethnic name only because i never planned to because i've already chosen raven and robyn... but yes i'd like to warn you that it does put your child at a little disadvantage in the real world...esp corporate america...when yall get out here, yall will learn that people someimes won't hire you because you're black...seriously i was refused 2 jobs that i was qualified for just because i was black...two positions availiable in my FORMER company!!! name doesn't matter, you're at a disadvantage period because you're black...and this is a conservative republican talking not some jesse jackson type cat whining about slavery....discrimination is alive and well..especially depending on where ya live... but we've had some great blacks with "ethnic" names who have risen to great places... including CONDELEEZA RICE and COLIN POWELL... 8-)

I think it does put a black person at a disadvantage when they have these ridiculously ghetto names. Unfortunately it isnt fair to profile them and not hire them because of a choice their parents made when naming them, but it is a reality.

#-o Wow, it does have every letter in it. s-m-d-h. Don't these parents realize they're handing their children a life sentence in the ghetto? The real world won't take them seriously. Adreamcomtru... whose dream? Ain't no upward mobility with a name like that! As it exists right now, Corporate America will never accept them. It's the truth. Don't wait, get Punani a name change for her "sweet 16", hopefully before she applies for a real job!

Black people aren't alone in the madness, especially among celebrities. Anyway, I'm naming my kids Goku-Supa Sayin-3, Inu-Yasha Fry-Lokk, Vajjeeta Luigi, and Naruto Tha Ninjja.
What does "ethnic" mean? Misspelling and/or mispronouncing pre-existing names? Making up words and calling them names? Where is the line between ethnic and ghetto? I don't know, but "they" won't care. Condoleeza and Colin are one thing (I knew a White kid named Colin). Busillica Amfamy is another. I don't know about y'all, but some names just sound more "made-up" than others to me. I want to give my children names that will sound "real" to both my wife and I. If you're going to make sh!t up, at least start off with something real. There are some nice websites out there with real ethnic names that actually mean something, and can be misspelled to your heart's desire. Wtf? It says my little brother's name means "first-born son"!
