How Old do I have to be to do Me? Posted on 05-22-2005
*NiseyInWonderland*

im 17 yrs old and my mom is still telling me what I can and cannot wear. Im not one of those girls who like mini skirts and shirts showing my mid-driff. I like to dress comfortable and sometimes I like to bring it up a step and look cute. But anyways my sister went shopping for me up in NY and brought back a tube top and my mom went off saying that I can't and will not wear my back out and that she's not letting me show my body parts. Mind u I have a VERY small frame. All i wanna know is when will I be old enough to wear wut I wanna wear w/o her breathing dwn my neck.

Aiight.. i know i shouldnt interfere with what mom says so imma give you to options, one from her point of veiw and one from a childs point of veiw. Moms point of veiw: Your only 17 your not grown, even though you may think you are.. i dont care how small your frame is, all long as you stay in my house you wear what i feel is appropriate. When you get out on YOUR OWN then you can dress how you feel Childs point of veiw: You are 17 which means by now you should know right from wrong, and know what is tasteful and what isnt. When you leave and go to school(college) there isnt to much she can say reason being is because she wont see you everyday(unless you stay at home and go to school) My point of veiw, talk to her, find some clothes that yall can compromise on and start from there, when you turn 18 buy your own clothes, cause i know my mom has never told me what i couldnt where when i bought it with MY OWN money, not money that she has given me. i know its like that with a lot of females your age

girl your mom reminds me of my parents. Tha summer before I left for school, I bought a few halters, a short skirt, and luckily I wasn't home that summer so I wore whatever I wanted. And now that I'm back home, I still wear it sometimes. But I don't wear it as much...so when u leave for school, thaz when you can do u.

A mother is going to be a mother. That's just how it is. U just happen to get it harder when you're younger. No matter what she is going to look at u as her child and have that maternal instinct going full force. When u get out on your own, you'll have it a lil better. But pleeze don't believe that the protective vibe leaves. She'll still wanna check up on u or see u as her baby.

NINE TIMES OUT OF TEN EVEN WHEN YOU GET OLDER YOUR MOM IS GOING TO BREATH DOWN YOUR NECK ABOUT WHAT YOU WHERE BECAUSE THAT IS HER JOB. TILL THIS DAY MOM STILL DOES IT. BEING THAT YOU 17 I UNDERSTAND THAT YOU WANNA SHOW OFF AND BE QUTE WHICH IS FINE BUT OUT OF RESPECT FOR YOUR MOTHER YOU SHOULD FOLLOW HER RULES. MY QUESTION TO YOU IS DO YOU BUY YOU OWN CLOSE? IF NOT THEN I GUESS YOU MOM HAS THE UPPER HAND. ALSO IF YOU REALLY JUST WANNA WEAR STUFF LIKE THAT WEAR IT BUT JUST NOT IN FRONT OF YOUR MOTHER, WHILE IN FRONT OF HER MAKE IT LOOK PG AND THEN DO YA THING LATER ON.

My mom doesnt buy clothes for me anymore because she says im too picky. So usually I buy my own clothes (with my money) or my sister or god-mother buys my clothes. But like everyone said I guess imma have to get used to it, and she [my mother] admitted that shes not ready for me to grow up
