Vance Pierce
Vance Pierce, formerly of Peoria, has been named to the new position of coordinator of intercultural life at Monmouth College.
Pierce's primary duties will include providing international and minority students with scholarship, internship and employment information, as well as programming that enriches their college experience.
The new coordinator will oversee such existing programs as Black History Month and the Intercultural Festival, while developing new ones, such as a Cultures in America series.
Pierce graduated from Bradley University in 2003 with a bachelor's degree in speech communication, focusing on intercultural communication.
This spring, he received his master's degree in leadership in human service administration from Bradley.
While pursuing his master's degree, Pierce worked in Bradley's office of multicultural student services.
He coordinated the school's Multicultural Arts Festival and International Night and researched, created and facilitated a career development program for international students.
Pierce also worked for Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., serving as director of conference planning. He led the development of a strategic plan for fraternal conventions based upon the goals and needs of 1,000 members statewide.
As an undergraduate, he served as the president of Bradley's Alpha Phi Alpha chapter, developing an initiative that increased alumni involvement by more than 75 percent.
A dean's list student at Bradley, Pierce was very active in speech, placing seventh in the nation in 2001 and coaching Bradley's team for four years.
