EVACUATION UPDATE:
As of Thursday evening, September 1, 2005, ALL dormitory students who were unable to evacuate before the ****, along with university staff who stayed with them, were safely removed from the campus and relocated either to the Southern University main campus in Baton Rouge, LA, or further North to Grambling State University in Grambling, LA, where they are making arrangements to retun home.
IMPORTANT MESSAGE FOR XAVIER STUDENTS from Dr. Elizabeth Barron, Vice President for Academic Affairs
Fall 2005 classes have been scheduled to resume on January 4, 2006.
Xavier students should plan on reporting to the same classes for which they are currently registered. The academic calendar will be revised and adjusted, so that students will be able to complete TWO semesters PRIOR to the opening of the Fall 2006 semester. There will be a brief break between the semesters. Commencement exercises, originally scheduled for May 13, 2006, will be held in early August 2006.
Students who wish to take courses at other institutions this Fall should take courses for which they are NOT currently scheduled, since they will be going into the second week of classes in January 06. The revised Academic calendar will be posted at this site as soon as it is available.
Xavier University of Louisiana has created this emergency web site to provide essential information in the event of any emergency that would cause normal campus communications to be suspended -- such as a ****, flooding, lightning strike, etc.
Likewise, a special toll-free emergency telephone number (1-866-520-X-U-L-A) has also been established to ensure access to essential information in the event online access is not possible.
Also an e-mail address has been established xulaemergency@gmail.com. This e-mail is intended to receive and pass on messages from those affected.
I hope for the best for you and the Xavier, Dillard, and SUNO college community. If you want to continue your classes this fall, the door is always open here. If I come across you on campus, I'll help you anyway I can.
Jonathan and the Southern Community.
Wow, this whole situation effects so many people and things from gas to graduations...My girl came home the day before yesterday...she goes to Xavier and she is going to attend Spelman until January. She doesn't have to pay the tuition there or anything....she, unlike many other students everywhere, has the money to buy new clothes and such for her time in ATL but my heart just goes out to the people who didn't have much to start with because now they have nothing.
