Bowie State University to Offer Assistance to Students and Faculty Affected by **** Katrina
Bowie, Maryland – Bowie State University President, Dr. Calvin W. Lowe, announced today that the university will join in the relief efforts with other universities to help ts affected by **** Katrina.
Students from Maryland and/or the District of Columbia who are currently enrolled at Xavier University or Dillard University will be allowed to attend Bowie State University for the 2005 fall semester at no additional cost. “Bowie State will accommodate these students in every way possible to ensure that there is no interruption in their academic programs,” said Dr. Lowe. “This natural disaster has presented a terrible loss and the BSU community understands the need to work together during a time like this.”
Additionally, during this transitional period, Bowie State is willing to assist Xavier and Dillard faculty who have academic interests in alignment with those of our institution.

Welcoming **** Ravaged Students
The University of Maryland (College Park) is opening its doors to help students displaced from Gulf Coast universities to salvage their semester.
With more than 300 inquiries received by midday Thursday, university officials are working to identify courses with available seats to accommodate as many students as possible. Students seeking assistance should contact the Undergraduate Admissions Office at 301.314.8385. or the Graduate Admissions Office at 301.405.0376.
The majority of students who have contacted Maryland were enrolled at Tulane University or Loyola University in New Orleans. Many are Maryland residents who want to return home. The university is making every effort to assist others enrolling here to find housing in the local community.
Enrollment Information for **** Affected Students:
Callers who are victims of the **** devastation enrolled as students in a New Orleans college or university inquiring about admission to Howard University for the Fall 2005 should be advised that we will consider their applications.
The prospective student should complete an application for admission (we will waive the application fee), submit any transcripts, documentation, or ID to verify their college/university enrollment. Students will be considered on a case by case basis as an unclassified student. Prospective students should understand that housing and financial aid are not guaranteed. Academic/Program Assistance
Students from the Gulf Coast – A number of students from the Gulf Coast will be attending programs at American University on a space available basis because their own institutions have been affected. This includes students interested in the Washington Semester Program; the Washington College of Law; students originally accepted to AU as freshmen or transfers (destined elsewhere) who now wish to re-consider; and students who want to attend AU on a non-degree basis while their institutions are closed. These are just a few of the AU programs fielding inquiries and some of the initiatives being taken.
Students from the affected areas who are interested in attending American University on a space available basis should contact the Office of Admissions (202-885-6000), which will direct the inquiry to the appropriate department. Law school inquiries may be directed to the WCL admissions office (202-274-4101) or by e-mail. Students admitted as freshmen or transfer students and who now seek re-admission to AU will be handled by the Admissions Office. We appreciate the extra efforts by AU program administrators, admissions, orientation, and housing services officials to accommodate these requests.

Lincoln Reaches out to Students Affected by Katrina
LINCOLN UNIVERSITY, PA --In an effort to lend help to those in need during this time of crisis, Lincoln University of Pennsylvania will be offering tuition free education relief to students from Xavier, Dillard and Southern University of New Orleans, all fellow HBCUs that have been affected by **** Katrina. Lincoln is willing to take on and house fifty (50) female students who will not be charged tuition for this semester but will have to pay Room, Board and Fees. Lincoln University will open its doors to an additional 25 students, male or female who are able to commute who will also have tuition waived. Students interested in taking advantage of this offer must enroll by September 9th as classes began on August 24th.
