A lot of students that were displaced by Katrina came to my school, LSU. So naturally there's gonna be some Greeks in the mix. Well, the chapters at my school are letting them join as 'visiting members'(or somethin like that).
I was just wondering what ya'll thought about that and if they were doing the same thing at some of your schools.
I know one of the members of our Charter Line here lost his house and family business down there and also one of our old professors/frat here at Morehouse who just moved NO to work at Xavier (Dr. Turner).
They are all in our prayers and we are trying to do something as a chapter to help them out as well everybody else in general.
I think it's a wonderful thing. I don't like to say i'm displaced but as a studnet from one of the affected schools(Dillard) and as someone who is a member of a Greek Org(Delta Sigma Theta) it made going to another school a better experience. It makes you realize what a wonder thing it is to be in a org. all the love and support the ladies of the Iota Kappa chapter of Delta Sigma Theta and all the other D9 Org. have shown me has meant so much to me.
I appreciate the fact that other chapters are taking in members from other chapters. I too was from Dillard. Luckily, I graduated in May before the **** hit but it makes me feel better to know that other members are looking out for my line sisters (67 F.O.A.S.) and making them feel at home. At least now I don't have to worry about them so much.
Yeah...I too believe that it's a good thing, having people at the new school that can show you around and who you can hang with.
But in my friend's case, the whole arrangement is kind of working against her. See, she wants to be member of XYZ and her 'friend' from one of the flooded schools is going to school here, and she happens to already be a member of the org. She's one of those people who let the org. make them. Her identity is all caught up in this org. She keeps tellin my friend though that she's gonna look out for her and whatnot, but we think it's all BS...
In high school, my friend was pretty popular, had a shape and all that good stuff. Ol' girl wasn't popular at all and was real self-conscious and since she's joined the org. her attitude has completely changed. We've come to the conclusion that basically now she has something that my friend doesn't have and she's doing whatever she can so that it stays that way. She even told my friend to answer a question at rush a certain way, knowing it would be looked down upon.
Anyway, she has definitely made her way into their clique.
Oh well...I hope ya'll read that and I didn't just type it for nothing. :-)
Well my NEO went too UNO and had to go to Lake Charles was welcomed with open arms from Sorors and now Lake Charles had to evacuate to Shreveport. But that does my heart good t know that MY Sorors are takin care of each other as a TRUE Soror should.
