1) Replace inactive moderators with active users who want to be moderators. Keep the active moderators. 2) Delete all “free porn” posts and any other inappropriate ish. I have no clue why those aren’t being deleted. Absolutely no clue. 3) Get rid of all the “The Yard” forums (Bison Roaming Grounds, The AUC, The Rattlers, etc). It’s nice to have a certain forum to go to for one school, but people can always do a search…Plus, these forums are inactive. 4) In addition to getting rid of those forums, get rid of “Member Photos” forum. Do we really need it? I’m sure it takes up a lot of bandwidth and overworks the server. This site has a member profile pages/profiles (kind of like Myspace & Facebook). I don’t think it’s necessary. If you want to share several pictures of yourself, get an online photo album (Flickr, Fotki, Imagestation, etc) and post the link in your signature. The “HBCU Smack Talk” forum is pointless to me. I see that it is also inactive and serves no real purpose. The “What’s Poppin’,” “Graphics & Web Design,” “Technology & Gaming, " “Wall of Fame,” “Wall of Shame” and “HBCU Minority Scholarship Q&A” should also be deleted. Honestly, the HBCU Ladies/Fellas forums are nice to have, but everything being posting on those forums can be posted in “The Yard.” As KärolinaPläyboy said, there are too many forums. I’m even tempted to say the Alumni Hangout forum should be deleted. It’s inactive. There are better ways for alumni to network, communicate on this site and on the internet in general. For example, there is the Spelhouse Yahoo Group for alumni. 5) This is going to be another unpopular opinion, but there should be a limit as to how much space a user’s signature takes up. Some of the pictures are too big. It just makes the loading time longer. *A new design would be nice, not just for the Café, but HBCUConnect.com in general. This is only a bonus. The more important stuff should be taken care of first. * Random, slightly off topic question ---Was this board ever active? There are a lot of people registered on HBCUConnect. I don’t think enough people know about the Café. On the main page you have to go from Student to Interactive to Message Board Forums. That’s prolly why folks don’t know about this place. There should be a “botton” that says “Forum” on the front page. Just like there are “bottons” that say “Home,” “Members,” “Parents,” “Recruits,” “Alumni” and “Students.” //end rant Pardon any typos

The members pictures dont take up on site bandwidth because they arent LOADED on THIS SITE..........and wont OVERWORK THE SERVERS............. The signatures could be as short as they want and STILL have a big ass pictures stretch it out seeing as how you can restrict the amount of characters in the sig but not the size of the picture......... getting rid of forums wont help either............ at one point and time EVERY forum was jumping.........getting rid of them will do NOTHING but make it like it was b4 and when you come to check the 3 or 4 forums each one will have at LEAST 2 pages of new stuff for people to check and will have NO order at all........at least with the seperate forums you SORT OF know where to look for things................and when I was running this board Sh*t was straight............ I dont know where you came from but its obviouse you know NOTHING about the history of this board..........not EVERYone thats on the board has a profile thru the site............and therefore we have what we have here....... its also obvious you havent ran your own site b4....... coming from someone who has I know that having a live site and a live message board dont always go hand in hand.......
You’re right, I’ve never ran my own site before. I’m not the most technology savvy either. I know very little about website maintenance, design, etc. That said, I mentioned the bandwidth issue because I’m an active poster on Nappturality.com. Over the past couple of years the website has been having a lot of trouble as more members began to join and post on the forum. The administrator has done things like create a 10 page limit on topics and limited the size of signature images – she said she did this due to bandwidth issues. That’s why I was under the impression that limiting signature sizes and getting rid of “Member Photos” would help. I didn’t think about whether pictures are uploaded here or not. I assumed they were and I see that I was wrong. I don’t post pictures here nor do I check the properties of signature images (that’s why I didn’t know). I do have some knowledge of this board’s history – I’ve been lurking here for a little over two years. I joined last year and decided to start posting this year. I’ve done several searches, read many archives and noted past activity.

Already in progress. All newly registered users now have to visually confirm their registration through typing the characters they see in a certain, random photo.

I'll address these to Will Moss.

Again...stay tuned. Will and myself have some ideas that we're working on, and we're going to try to get the entire board involved in the process. Not only with a new look, but new mods, etc...

What's with "losing your cursor" while you're in the middle of typing a message, seemingly b/c of the animated advertisements? Or am I the only one? :-k
