Please see this film sometime over the next three days. The opening weekend box office numbers are very important to a film's success. http://www.akeelahandthebee.com/splash.html Thanks.

whoever... expects me.... to spend money... on a movie 'bout a spelling bee... MUST be smokin that good stuff... even though it looks like a cute movie, and its wonderful for a movie to be out showing african american girls in a positive light... aint no way in whatever i'd see a movie about a SPELLING BEE.

I suppose you prefer movies about black males committing ****/****? Or about white gymnasts falling on their crotch? Or maybe a movie about an egg-head boy wizard who wears glasses? We finally get a movie about something else in the black experience besides ****, crime, slapstick or a romantic comedy and now people act like they don't want to support it. To each his own; klq14, I already have my tickets. I suspect it will be the #1 or #2 movie in America this weekend. Americans are starved for a feel good story.

If the movie was about just a spelling bee, I could see your point. From the previews and interviews conducted with the cast, it's obvious that the movie is way more than just a movie about a spelling bee. Its much more in-depth than that. I plan to see it. It looks really interesting, as well as inspirational. Glad that we're shown in a different light. It just amazes me how slow a lot of black ppl are to get behind something like this, but are quick to support stupid ****like Get Rich Or Die Tryin'...

^^^Lawrence Fishburne is not one of her parents. He's like her coach or something like that. Angela Bassett is a single parent in the movie...

Don't hate on Harry Potter...shame. The movies are watever (it's sorta hard to capture the essence of a 500-700 book w/o going over 3 hrs), but the books are the greatest. Anyway, did anybody go see it? I saw the main character, Keke Palmer on 106 & Park. I was like aw, she's real cute. And then I found out she's like 12/13. Damn...I was shocked. Anyway, how was it if you saw it this weekend?
