In order to remain active, all PRN Employees will provide availability to work a minimum of three (3) shifts per month and must include evening, night, weekend and holiday availability. PRN staff are not eligible for County-provided health insurance benefits and certain other employee benefits.</p></span> <br> <br> <div id="box" style="border: solid; padding: 15px; border-color: gold; background-color: lightgray;"> <span id="bold3" class="font-weight-bold">Minimum Requirements: </span> <span id="MainContent_MinimumRequirements"><p>High School Diploma or its equivalent <strong>AND</strong> completion of an approved Medical Assistant program.</p><p>Previous relevant work experience is preferred. An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.</p><p>Must have current CPR/BLS certification at time of appointment. Act 33/34 clearances are required prior to appointment at the cost of the applicant.</p><p>It is the policy of Allegheny County that in order to receive a final offer of employment, candidates must successfully pass a background check, which includes verification of Allegheny County Real Estate Tax status, and drug/medical examinations as required for the position. The pre-employment drug screen must be completed within 48 hours of the acceptance of the conditional offer of employment.</p></span> </div> <br> <span id="bold4" class=" font-weight-bold">Position Summary: </span> <span id="MainContent_PositionSummary"><br><br><p>The Medical Assistant is responsible for monitoring vital signs and administratively and operationally assisting in the day to day nursing operations of the Allegheny County Jail Medical Unit. </p></span> <br> <br> <span id="MainContent_bold12" class="font-weight-bold">Overview: </span> <span id="MainContent_Overview"><br><br></span> <br> <span id="bold5" class="font-weight-bold">Duties: </span> <span id="MainContent_Duties"><br><br><ul><li>Monitors vital signs.</li><li>Phones verification of medications and medical information.</li><li>Prepares and maintains examination and treatment areas.</li><li>Performs various treatments when needed (i.e., tuberculin skin tests, EKG readings, etc.)</li><li>Performs blood draws.</li><li>Maintains medical records.</li><li>Performs administrative tasks (i.e., answering phones, typing reports, escorting visitors, etc.)</li><li>Obtains specimens as directed. </li></ul></span> <br> <span id="bold6" class="font-weight-bold">Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities </span> <span id="MainContent_KSA"><br><br></span> <span id="bold7" class="font-weight-bold">Knowledge of: </span> <span id="MainContent_Knowledgeof"><br><br><ul><li>Nursing and medical practices and procedures, as well as laws, rules, regulations, and guidelines that govern correctional care.</li><li>Established policies and procedures regarding infection control.</li><li>Medical terminology</li></ul></span> <br> <span id="bold9" class="font-weight-bold">Skill in: </span> <span id="MainContent_Skills"><br><br></span> <br> <span id="bold8" class="font-weight-bold">Ability to: </span> <span id="MainContent_Abilityto"><br><br><ul><li>Interact with inmates</li><li>Make independent decisions when warranted</li><li>Understand and follow oral and written instructions</li><li>Effectively communicate with jail administrative and medical management, patients, colleagues and other stakeholders.</li><li>Work shifts in a 24/7 facility.</li><li>Adapt to changing priorities and manage multiple tasks in a stressful environment.</li></ul><p> </p><p>#INDSJ </p></span> <br> <span id="bold10" class="font-weight-bold">Residency: </span> <span id="MainContent_Residency">Not required to live in Allegheny County</span> <br> <span id="bold11" class=" font-weight-bold">Veterans' Preference: </span> <span id="MainContent_VeteransPreference">Will be awarded to eligible candidates.</span> <br> <div id="Needtocenterandbold" class=" text-md-center font-weight-bold"> AN EQUAL OPPORTUNITY EMPLOYER - M/F/V/D </div> <br> <br> <div id="Needtocenterandbold2" class=" text-md-center font-weight-bold"> <a href="https://apps.alleghenycounty.us/HRJobApplication/firstpage.aspx?id=0696" id="MainContent_Applyonline">Apply Online</a> </div> </div> <br> <br> <br> </div>
