A resume may not be substituted for an application. <div id="box" style="border: solid; padding: 15px; border-color: gold; background-color: lightgray;"> Minimum Requirements: <ul><li>High school diploma or its equivalent.</li></ul> A valid PA Driver’s License is required prior to appointment and must be maintained throughout employment. It is the policy of Allegheny County that in order to receive a final offer of employment, candidates must successfully pass a background check, which includes verification of Allegheny County Real Estate Tax status and medical examinations as required for the position. </div> Position Summary: Under the direct supervision of the Quality Manager, the Material Laboratory Assistant assists in the daily operations of the Medical Examiner’s Office, as assigned. Overview: Duties: <ul><li>Cleans and maintains all assigned equipment, including glassware, dishwashers, sinks, cabinets, ovens, etc., used in maintaining glassware.</li><li>Ensure timely distribution of clean glassware and linen resources to their proper locations office-wide</li><li>Maintains cleanliness and organization of laboratory shelving, chemical hoods, and storage cabinets.</li><li>Performs general laboratory cleaning tasks as needed or assigned.</li><li>Provides reliable courier and messenger services for the department.</li><li>Supports the laboratory’s Health & Safety program by overseeing the department’s biohazardous waste management procedures and maintaining safe workspaces.</li><li>Conducts routine daily and weekly checks of the laboratory’s deionized water system to ensure proper function.</li><li>Performs other duties as required or requested.</li></ul> Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of: <ul><li>Operations of the Medical Examiner’s Office.</li><li>Basic laboratory safety protocols and chemical hygiene standards.</li><li>Proper handling, cleaning, and maintenance of laboratory glassware and equipment.</li><li>Risks of chemical hazards.</li><li>Decontamination procedures.</li></ul> Skill in: <ul><li>Microsoft Office products such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.</li></ul> Ability to: <ul><li>Lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 pounds.</li><li>Perform physical tasks including lifting, bending, and standing for extending periods.</li><li>Wear appropriate PPE as required by work assignment such as latex/nitrile gloves, safety glasses, and lab coat.</li><li>Legally and safely drive a motor vehicle in various weather conditions, times of day, and times of year as required by work assignment.</li><li>Maintain a clean and safe work environment in compliance with health and safety protocols.</li><li>Follow detailed instructions and standard operating procedures.</li><li>Work independently and as part of a collaborative team.</li><li>Adapt to changing priorities and complete tasks within designated timeframes.</li><li>Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.</li><li>Establish effective working relationships with management, employees, interns, court and hospital employees, and the general public.</li><li>Learn and utilize applicable computer systems, databases, and applications.</li><li>Work under adverse and unpleasant conditions such as potentially distressing sights, sounds, and odors.</li><li>Read and interpret documents such as safety rules, Safety Data Sheets, and chemical bottle labels.</li><li>Maintain strict chain of custody in accordance with established protocol.</li></ul> Residency: Allegheny County within 1 year.
