<dt><h2>Position Summary</h2></dt>
<dd><p><strong>Job Description: </strong><br>The Department of Visual &amp; Performing Arts at York College of Pennsylvania invites applications for an <strong>Adjunct Instructor </strong>to teach <strong>ART 101: Art &amp; Visual Culture</strong>, an introductory-level course that explores how visual culture shapes and reflects human experience.   <strong>ART 101 </strong>examines the study and practice of art-making. Students learn about traditional and digital media, build visual literacy skills, and engage with the ethical, political, and social dimensions of visual culture. The course combines art-making, critical interpretation, and discussion of timely issues such as advertising, freedom of expression, censorship, propaganda, and cultural heritage. Students will cultivate both creative problem-solving skills and foundational knowledge through an exploration of art and visual culture. <strong>ART 101 </strong>fulfills the Arts component of the Disciplinary Perspectives requirement.<br><br><strong>Outcome: </strong><br>Successful candidates will teach 1-2 sections of <strong>ART 101</strong> in the Spring 2026 semester beginning January 12, 2026 and ending April 27, 2026 with grades due by May 12, 2026.<br><br></p></dd>
<dt><h2>Essential Functions</h2></dt>
<dd><p>Adjunct instructors will be responsible for:<br></p><ul style="margin-bottom: 3pt"><li>Teach one or more sections of <strong>ART 101: Art &amp; Visual Culture</strong>, following the departmental syllabus and learning outcomes.</li><li>Design and deliver engaging class sessions that introduce students to key concepts in visual literacy, art history, and contemporary visual culture while integrating both making-based and analytical approaches.</li><li>Evaluate student work fairly and promptly through assignments, discussions, and projects using shared rubrics when applicable.</li><li>Maintain clear communication with students and the department.</li><li>Participate in end-of-the semester assessment.</li></ul></dd>
<dt><h2>Experience and Education Required</h2></dt>
<dd><p>Candidates must have obtained:<br></p><ul style="margin-bottom: 3pt"><li>Master’s or doctoral degree in Art, Art History, Visual Studies, Studio Art, or a related field.</li><li>Experience teaching at the college level or equivalent professional experience in the visual arts.</li></ul><strong></strong></dd>

<dd><p>Candidates must have demonstrated:<br></p><ul style="margin-bottom: 3pt"><li>The ability to engage students with diverse backgrounds and learning styles.</li><li>The interest in an inclusive, student-centered pedagogy.</li><li>The potential to integrate project-based learning into a course. </li></ul><strong></strong></dd>
