ABOUT THE POSITION
The Long Beach Community College District is looking to hire one (1) full-time tenure track Economics Instructor commencing with the 2026 fall semester. The primary teaching assignment involves instructing a variety of courses in the Economics field. The teaching assignment may be at our beautiful Liberal Arts campus, state-of-the-art Trades, Technology, and Community Learning campus, or other teaching locations. Assignment may be day, evening, weekend, online and are subject to change as needed. Duties
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:

  • Demonstrated experience and commitment to integrating new technologies into the learning process, including but not limited to interactive technologies for on-campus and online courses.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.


Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Master's in economics
OR
  • Bachelor's in economics
AND
Master's in business, business administration, business management, business education, finance or political science

OR
  • the equivalent

All candidates must demonstrate:
Evidence of a sensitivity, understanding, and ability to manage the classroom environment AND effectively provide instruction to community college students of diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Recent community college or lower division teaching experience in macroeconomics, microeconomics, global economics, and other economics courses.
  • Experience teaching in a variety of modalities, including on-campus (day and evening classes), asynchronous or synchronous online, partially online (Hybrid), and off-campus classes (dual enrollment).
  • Evidence of a sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socio economic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.
  • Real-world work experience in the field of the courses being taught.
  • Current knowledge of economics, economic theory, and economic analysis.
  • Current knowledge of effective teaching/learning strategies to meet the needs of various student learning styles.
  • A willingness to develop new curriculum and innovative materials for instruction.
  • Ability to advance equitable and successful student learning through dedicated, exemplary instruction in accordance with established course outlines.
  • Experience in developing, implementing, and assessing student-learning outcomes for courses and programs, and using the results for improvement.
  • Experience and commitment to integrating new technologies into the learning process, including but not limited to interactive technologies for on-campus and online courses.
  • Experience with coursework in regression analysis used in microeconomic and macroeconomic Honors courses
  • Experience teaching full semester and accelerated classes, including 4-week, 5-week, 6-week, 8-week, 12-week and 16-week classes.
  • Ability to work cooperatively in team-teaching situations.
  • Desire and demonstrated ability to participate actively in the department, division, and college committees and in the shared governance of Long Beach City College.
  • Desire and evidence of an ability to take on leadership roles both withing the department and in the institution as a whole.
