ABOUT THE POSITONLong Beach Community College District is currently seeking a Full-Time tenure Geology Professor commencing with the Fall 2026 semester. The teaching assignment may be at the Liberal Arts campus, the Trades, Technology, and Community Learning campus or other college teaching locations. The assignment may be day, evening, weekend, online or off campus and is subject to change as needed. The ideal candidate for this position embraces the overall mission of Long Beach Community College District, with a clear, focused commitment to supporting teaching and academic excellence, and student learning and success through the work of Geology.

Duties
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:

  • Ability to adapt teaching pedagogy to the knowledge of each individual and class.
  • Ability to self-reflect and respond to an evidence-based assessment of student learning.
  • Demonstrated experience and commitment to integrating new technologies into the learning process, including but not limited to interactive technologies for on campus and on-line courses.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.


Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Master's degree in geology, geophysics, earth sciences, meteorology, oceanography, or paleontology
OR
  • Bachelor's in geology
AND
Master's in geography, physics, or geochemistry;
OR
  • Hold a valid credential to teach in the discipline;
OR
  • The equivalent
AND
  • Evidence of a sensitivity, understanding, and ability to manage the classroom environment AND effectively provide instruction to community college students of diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds.

Desirable Qualifications:
  • Experience teaching/leading students in day-long and weekend-long field activities.
  • Experience teaching historical geology lecture and lab courses.

This includes transcripts for any and all for the following degrees AA/AS, BA/BS, MA/MS and above (Ed.D, Ph,D, etc.) and courses used for transfer credit. Transcripts can be official or unofficial and must be submitted as an attachment. The conferral date must be on or before the application deadline in order to meet Minimum Qualifications.
  • Transcripts from countries other than the United States must be evaluated by an agency that is a member of the National Association of Credentials Evaluation Service (NACES) or Association of International Credential Evaluators, Inc (AICE).
