Essential Functions:

The ideal candidate will share Reedley College's commitment to educating its racially and socioeconomically diverse student population. For the 2024-2025 academic year, we enrolled over 17,000 students in which 73% identified as Latinx, 6% as Asian/Pacific Islander, 2% as Black/African American, 15% as White, 1% as American Indian/Alaska Native, and 2% as multiracial. The successful candidate will join a college dedicated to the students it serves.

Reporting to the Dean of Students at Reedley College, the Counselor, STEM Pathway will cover a full range of general counseling responsibilities, which include the following:

Providing comprehensive counseling services to students, including academic, career, personal and life transitions, and counseling on an appointment and walk-in basis;
Assisting in the organization and implementation of matriculation activities, such as orientation, counseling and follow-up services to students;
Assisting students with major selection, develop student education plans (SEPs), aligned with their educational goals, career, and Guided Pathways;
Assisting with Guided Pathways, Student Equity Achievement (SEA), and other student success initiatives;
Assisting and collaborating in developing programs and student support services with an emphasis on counseling services that will improve student access to college, increase student retention, and completion rates;
Assisting, as needed, with matriculation, student outreach, and recruitment activities in the community and on campus;
Providing assistance and referrals to on/off campus resources and student support services including Admissions & Records, EOPS, CalWORKs, Career/Transfer & Employment Center, DSP&S, Financial Aid, Academic Success Centers, STEM, TRiO, and off-campus community resources;
Participating in meetings, conferences, trainings, and other professional development activities to maintain the expertise required to provide accurate and reliable information and support to students seeking to complete a certificate, associate degree, or transfer;
Providing assistance to new and prospective students with college applications and college orientation;
Assisting and maintaining program website to ensure content is accurate for students to access;
Monitoring and implementing programs in compliance with Federal, State, District, and college regulations, policies, and procedures;
Developing and/or revising curriculum and programs, including program review and developing and assessing student learning outcomes for courses and programs to improve student learning;
Participating in the accreditation process;
Developing and/or utilizing technologies for classroom presentations;
Working with colleagues within and beyond the discipline to implement the guided pathways concept to promote student success and completion;
Developing and maintaining counseling notes in the college's electronic record-keeping software, in a timely and effective manner;
Training new counselors;
Collaborating with instructional and counseling faculty and staff from other departments and programs, including Financial Aid, Admissions and Records, EOPS/CARE, DSPS, Career & Employment Center, Transfer Center, Veterans Resource Center, TRiO Student Support Services, and other special programs;
Collaborating with others to evaluate needs of students within the pathway to identify gaps in regards to equity, student engagement, success and intervention;
Collaborating with others to identify and implement interventions designed to meet the needs of students within the pathway and increase equitable engagement of students within the pathway;
Collaborating with and participating in efforts with the Pathway Team;
Participating in the implementation of transfer and matriculation activities;
Interpreting and utilizing articulation agreements and transfer requirements for community college students;
Utilizing and keeping abreast of advanced counseling methods and student development theories that include integrating technology to support student learning and identification of career objectives;
Participating in unit goals and outcome data collection;
Working assignments and providing services in a variety of settings and times, including evening and/or weekends, and on-line or off-campus as needed;
Serving on and attending department, college, and district committees as needed;
Participating in program review, student learning outcome development and assessment to improve student learning;
Otherwise fulfilling all of the duties and responsibilities as required by Administrative Regulation 7122; and
Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:
All Candidates must have evidence of responsiveness to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, as these factors related to the need for equity-minded practices; and

Master's degree in counseling, rehabilitation counseling, clinical psychology, counseling psychology, guidance counseling, educational counseling, social work, or career development, marriage and family therapy, or marriage, family and child counseling; or

Bachelor's degree in one of the listed degrees and a license as a Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT); or

A valid California Community College Credential; or

The equivalent education and/or experience (requires an equivalency).

Desirable Qualifications:

Experience and skill incorporating elements of diversity, equity, and inclusion into all areas of responsibility;
Recent experience working with African American, Asian/Pacific Islander, Latinx, Native American, and other racially minoritized students in the classroom and an understanding of how historical patterns of exclusion of these groups in higher education shape patterns of participation and outcomes;
Experience working with students of various cultural, gender, age, socioeconomic, and ethnic backgrounds, including disabled students;
Willingness to examine and remediate one's instructional, relational, and classroom practices to more effectively engage and support racially minoritized students;
Related work and professional experience;
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with students and staff;
Demonstrated ability to work with computers, and other technologies, which are utilized in providing high-quality instruction and support to students;
Experience in developing Student Education Plans (SEPs) for community college students;
Experience with advising students on the requirements for Associate degrees and Associate Degree for Transfer and general education patterns for both CSU & UC;
Experience participating in outreach and matriculation activities on/off campus;
Demonstrated understanding of Student Equity and Achievement (SEA), Guided Pathways, and/or other student success initiatives;
Demonstrated ability to design and implement innovative teaching methodologies;
Commitment to interacting and working successfully as a team with instructors and other colleagues;
Enthusiasm for teaching and assisting students to succeed;
Demonstrated ability to contribute to the total operation of Student Services including Department, Division, and College responsibilities;
Demonstrated ability to adapt instructional techniques to accommodate varied learning styles and a variety of teaching modalities including distance learning;
Demonstrated ability to use a broad range of technology pertaining to data collection and analysis for student success;
Knowledge and experience in the development and assessment of student learning outcomes;
Memberships in professional organizations;
Knowledge of student development theories pertaining to community college students;
Demonstrated ability to connect students with on/off campus resources to assist them in their college life management; and
Knowledge of the community college and its mission and goals.

Conditions of Employment:
178-181 duty days per year contingent upon funding. Duty days will be prorated based on start of assignment.

Salary and Benefits:
Starting annual salary is $71,054 - $108,773 based on education and experience. Duty days will be prorated based upon start of assignment. An annual doctoral stipend of $2,419 is available. In addition, the District offers an attractive fringe benefit package including medical, dental, and vision coverage for the employee and dependents, and life insurance. Employees are also members of the California State Teacher's Retirement System (CalSTRS).

Selection Procedure:
Applications will be screened by Human Resources for completeness and to determine which applicants meet the minimum qualifications as stated in the job announcement.

From the applicants who meet the minimum qualifications and who have submitted all the required documents by the closing date and time listed on the job announcement, a selection advisory committee will review the candidates who are best qualified based on the minimum and desirable qualifications then determine who will be invited to interview.

INTERVIEWS TENTATIVELY SCHEDULED AS FOLLOWS: FIRST LEVEL INTERVIEWS THE WEEK OF 03/16/25 FINAL INTERVIEWS THE WEEK OF 04/13/2025
The selection advisory committee will rate responses to the interview questions, teaching demonstration, and writing prompt (if applicable). Based on this rating, a small number of applicants will be selected as the "recommended candidates". These candidates will be forwarded to the Vice President and College President for final interviews.

A hiring recommendation will be made by the College President and forwarded to the Board of Trustees of State Center Community College District for final approval.

Reedley College is located in the Central San Joaquin Valley of California in the city of Reedley, which has a population of approximately 25,000. Known as "The World's Fruit Basket," Reedley is in one of the richest agricultural regions of the world. Reedley College was established in May 1926 as Reedley Junior College. Reedley College is located on the historic T.L. Reed Ranch, bordering the Kings River which spans over 420 acres, including a 300-acre farm.
