Per-Diem Optometrist

Join Our Team at NYU Grossman School of Medicine/NYC Health + Hospitals/Coler & Carter!

NYC Health + Hospitals/Coler and Henry J. Carter Specialty Hospital, affiliates of NYU Grossman School of Medicine, are seeking a dedicated Per-Diem Optometrist to provide high-quality vision care services across both facilities. This is a unique opportunity to support patients in both skilled nursing and long-term acute care settings, while contributing to clinical excellence, patient-centered care, and academic medicine.

About Us:

NYC Health + Hospitals/Coler, located on Roosevelt Island, is renowned for its specialized memory care program, high-quality short-term rehabilitation therapy, and long-term skilled nursing services.

Henry J. Carter Specialty Hospital & Skilled Nursing Facility is a nationally recognized facility with a 164-bed CMS 5-Star-Rated Skilled Nursing Facility and a 201-bed Long-Term Acute-Care Hospital (LTACH). Carter is known for its pulmonary excellence, ventilator-weaning expertise, and comprehensive long-term care.

Together, Coler and Carter provide patients with a continuum of exceptional care, in warm and supportive environments.

Responsibilities:

As an Optometrist with NYC Health + Hospitals/Coler & Carter, you will:

  • Deliver comprehensive optometric evaluations, refractions, and vision assessments for residents and patients in skilled nursing and long-term acute care settings.
  • Diagnose, monitor, and manage common ocular conditions, including glaucoma, diabetic eye disease, macular degeneration, and dry eye.
  • Provide prescriptions for glasses and other vision correction devices as appropriate.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary medical, nursing, and rehabilitation teams to ensure integrated, patient-centered care.
  • Refer patients to ophthalmology or other specialties when surgical or advanced interventions are required.

Requirements:

  • Doctor of Optometry (OD) degree from an accredited program.
  • New York State optometry license required.
  • Experience working with geriatric or medically complex populations strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated commitment to clinical excellence, interdisciplinary collaboration, and patient-centered care.

Salary Range: $110 per hour
