Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 02/17/2026. TIME-IN-GRADE: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in grade requirements. (If you have not held a GS grade at any time in the past 52 weeks, this question does not apply to you.) For a GS-9 level you must have held a position at or above the GS-07 level for at least 52 weeks. Please select the response below that most accurately describes your eligibility at the GS-09 level. Note: If you are not currently in the GS pay system or have not been in the last 52 weeks this question does not apply. Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: One (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-7 level in the Federal service that equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of this position. Specialized experience for the Environmental Care Specialist assist with barcode inspection and management of inspection database, tracking reports, and updates to the system; Coordinate the Mental Health Rounds Team Inspections, documentation of findings, attendance, and tracking action items until resolved and provide reports; prepare reports and presentations in MS Excel, MS Word, MS PowerPoint, and MS Access; Conduct critiques of fire drills and emergency exercises and provide a summary report which includes recommendation to improve effectiveness; Participate in the development and approval of directives, policy matters and related documents issued by the Medical Center. OR, Education: Applicants may substitute education for the required experience. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have Master's degree or equivalent or two (2) full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.B. or J.D., if related. OR, Combination: Applicants may also combine education and experience to qualify at this level. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment. Work Environment: Work normally is done in an office setting. During inspections and audits, however the work may be preformed at varying heights, in dusty and dirty environments, outside during inclement weather, and during off tours. The employee may be required to travel off site to perform inspections or establish work areas throughout the state. Travel to each campus, CBOC, and other VA and contract sites of care is required.
