Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement. Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element, which usually appears as question 1 in the on-line questionnaire. Screen Out: The ability to perform as a Cook without more than normal supervision. Experience in a quantity food service healthcare environment, independently performing the following duties: Independently preparing and cooking a variety of items including regular and therapeutic diet (diabetic, low sodium, low protein, gluten free, etc.) entrees and dessert items, planning cooking processes to produce meals on time and at the proper temperature which may require coordination of cooking several items with different cooking times; portioning and serving food into standard service sizes; roasting, broiling, baking, frying, boiling, steaming, and stewing meats, fish, and poultry; preparing soups, stocks, broths, gravies, sauces, and puddings without the use of packaged mixes; adjusting standardized recipes for the number of servings required in large quantity cooking; slicing meat items by hand conforming to a specific size requirement or weight specification; maintaining proper temperature for all foods during holding, transport, reheating, and serving to assure quality control and food safety. Those applicants who appear to possess at least the minimal acceptable qualification requirement are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated. The potential eligibles are then rated against the remainder of the Job Elements: There is no educational substitution. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
