KBR is hiring a Social Media Lead to support the Communications and Outreach team at the US Geological Survey (USGS) Earth Resources Observation and Science (EROS) Center in Sioux Falls, SD.

Requirements: Education: BS in Communications, Journalism, or Marketing

Experience: 7-10 years relevant experience

Three years of continuous residency in the U.S. for issuance of a Government Security credential

Essential Job Functions

• Create and schedule content across social platforms, develop editorial calendars, and maintain a consistent, mission-aligned voice and visual style.
• Monitor platforms and conversations to identify engagement opportunities.
• Stay current on EROS Center and science project developments to pitch fresh ideas and translate complex topics into accessible, compelling content.
• Report on performance (reach, engagement, click-throughs) and provide insights to optimize content.
• Adapt writing styles across technical, journalistic, and creative formats to meet audience expectations.
• Produce project e-newsletters.
• Collaborate closely with the supervisor and teammates to identify priorities and content needs.
• Ensure compliance with plain-language best practices and USGS digital standards.
• Other duties as assigned.

Desired Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Journalistic copywriting and an eye for visual storytelling (images, graphics, short-form video).
• Experience curating, packaging, and managing content across platforms (e.g., X, Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube) to meet audience expectations.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and social media tools; experience with analytics is preferred.
• An appreciation for Earth sciences and familiarity with Landsat or remote sensing is a plus.
