Administrative Assistant Job Requirements
The Administrative Assistant performs all secretarial functions, answers phones, takes messages, schedules appointments, maintains files, types, edits, proofreads, designs, copies and distributes correspondence, policies, procedures, meeting minutes, notices, etc.
Takes responsibility for own actions, holds self and others to high ethical and performance standards, and continually strives to improve levels of individual, team, and organizational performance. Does not blame or negatively represent any other department, organization, or employee associated with SJMC to customers. Adheres to departmental standards of response time to customer requests and follows-up accordingly without need for customers to re-contact the department. Manages customer expectations by notifying customers of anticipated absences through e-mail and voice-mail and provides a contact person for immediate needs.
COMMUNICATIONS AND TEAMWORK
Protects the privacy and confidentiality of patients and employees. Establishes and maintains a positive working rapport with all physicians and hospital staff. Working as a team member, demonstrates a positive, supportive and helpful attitude towards patients, families, visitors, co-workers and physicians. Addresses patients, families, visitors, co-workers and physicians with courtesy and respect. Respects patients' rights by addressing patient by name and maintaining confidentiality. Works effectively with co-workers to resolve identified problems, enlisting aid of management only when necessary.
PERFORMS ADMINISTRATIVE FUNCTIONS
Performs all secretarial functions. Including: preparation for and attendance at meetings, maintenance of department files, distribution of reports, messages, mail to the appropriate person(s)/departments, types, edits, proofreads, designs, copies and distributes policies, procedures, meeting minutes, notices, and correspondence. Exhibits good organizational and time management skills, which contribute to the management and efficient operation of the department. Demonstrates accurate and timely use of appropriate office equipment such as fax and email.

Education
* High School Diploma or GED (Required) 2 year / Associate's Degree: Business (Preferred) Vocational / Technical Degree: Business or Secretarial Coursework (Preferred)
