About the Human Resources Specialist Opportunity The Long Beach Community College District is seeking a Human Resources Specialist to join our collaborative and service-focused Human Resources team. Under the direction of an assigned administrator, the Human Resources Specialist performs advanced technical and administrative work supporting a variety of human resources functions. This position helps ensure personnel processes are accurate, compliant with applicable laws and policies, and responsive to the needs of employees and the community. Assignments include classified recruitment and selection, onboarding and personnel processing, employee records administration, HRIS data management, compliance monitoring, and/or other operational HR functions serving the District's workforce. This role is well suited for an HR professional who enjoys detail-oriented work, interpreting policies and procedures, solving problems, and supporting a diverse college community in a fast-paced public sector environment. The position requires a high level of accuracy, discretion, and independent judgment when managing personnel information and coordinating processes that affect employee records, employment status, and payroll-related actions. This position is particularly well suited for individuals with prior experience supporting public-sector or higher education human resources operations, where accuracy, compliance, and adherence to established policies, rules, and procedures are essential to maintaining effective personnel processes. Duties GENERAL PURPOSE Under the direction of an assigned administrator, performs a variety of confidential, highly complex and responsible technical and administrative duties in support of the District's human resources department and performs related duties as assigned. DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS Human Resources Specialists perform advanced paraprofessional and technical support assignments of greater scope and complexity in execution of human resources functions. Incumbents are expected to independently perform job assignments using detailed knowledge of established human resources practices, compliance standards, and relevant policies, procedures, rules, and labor contract provisions. Human Resources Specialist is distinguished from Human Resources Analyst in that incumbents in the latter class perform a wide variety of professional-level analytical and technical duties related to human resources administration requiring more extensive knowledge of professional human resources concepts, policy application, and advanced analytical methods. Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS FOR THIS POSITION: Education, Training and Experience: Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in business administration, public administration, human resources management, or a closely related field, and one (1) year of experience performing technical human resources functions including recruitment, employment, or employee services; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Experience is evaluated on the basis of a verifiable 35-hour week, unless specified otherwise. Prorated part-time experience may be acceptable. Licenses; Certificates; Special Requirements: May require a valid California driver's license and the ability to maintain insurability under the District's vehicle insurance policy. Meeting the minimum requirements of the position does not guarantee advancement in the selection process. Candidate qualifications will be assessed to determine those who meet and exceed requirements and are deemed most competitive amongst the applicant pool to proceed.
