SPOK System Engineer
SPOK System Engineer Empower critical clinical communications. Join GDIT and support the mission. At GDIT, your technical expertise directly impacts patient care. As a SPOK System Engineer supporting the National Institutes of Health (NIH), youll ensure highavailability operation of the communication and paging systems clinicians depend on every day. This role requires a highly skilled engineer with strong experience across Windows Server, IIS, SQL, application support, and Spok communication platforms. About the Role You will administer, enhance, and troubleshoot the NIH paging and oncall scheduling ecosystemincluding Spok WebXchange, Spok Mobile, Zetron, Avaya PBX integrations, call center applications, and critical backend infrastructure. This is a handson, technical role dedicated to uptime, performance, and secure operations. Key Technical Responsibilities Administer and support Windows Server, IIS, and SQL Server environments in a 24x7 production setting with rotating oncall duties. Install, configure, maintain, and troubleshoot Spok systems and related communication platforms. Manage database configurations, stored procedures, server integrations, and API-based application connections. Diagnose complex issues across servers, applications, databases, networking, and paging hardware (pagers, mobile devices, PBX systems). Build, test, and deploy server builds, application updates, and patches across virtual and physical environments. Perform daily system monitoring, log review, performance checks, and verification of scheduled jobs (backups, scripts, batch processes). Support call center communication systems and ensure operational continuity of clinician oncall schedules. Maintain detailed documentation including runbooks, integration guides, operational workflows, and troubleshooting playbooks. Collaborate with cross-functional IT teams for upgrades, enhancements, disaster recovery planning, and system integrations. Required QualificationsBachelors degree in IT, Computer Science, or related field OR seven years of relevant experience.Minimum 3 years of system engineering or system administration experience.Hands-on experience with Spok or similar communication/paging systems.Strong troubleshooting across:Windows Server / IISSQL databasesApplication stacks and API integrationsNetworking, firewalls, load balancersPBX and telephony componentsAbility to work both independently and collaboratively in a highimpact environment.Excellent communication and customersupport skills.Ability to obtain and maintain an NIH Public Trust clearance.Preferred Qualifications ITIL certification CompTIA Network+, MCSE, or similar technical certifications Security Clearance: Must be able to obtain and maintain an NIH Public Trust clearance.
