Overview

ABOUT THE POSITION

Transportation Planner | Washington, DC

 

VHB’s Virginia offices have an immediate opening for a Transportation Planner! This is an exciting opportunity to work within a dynamic team, across diverse disciplines, giving you exposure to a wide variety of projects in size and scope.

 

Responsibilities

  • Supports multimodal transportation planning projects.
  • Conduct and synthesize data-driven analyses (travel demand, safety, access, equity, and performance measures) into clear, compelling planning recommendations.
  • Support public and stakeholder engagement, including workshops, open houses, small group meetings, and online engagement.
  • Coordinate with internal teams (planning, engineering, urban design, environmental, and GIS) to develop integrated solutions.
  • Mentor junior staff by reviewing work, providing feedback, and modeling collaborative team behavior. 

Skills & Abilities

  • Comfort working with data and analysis tools (e.g., GIS, Excel, transportation datasets, safety data) and interpreting results for planning applications.
  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
  • Team-oriented with strong capability to work independently
  • A strong work ethic with the desire to learn and achieve
  • The ability to work on multiple projects and work independently
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Proficiency with communication tools such, Word, PowerPoint, and graphics software

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of planning, consulting, and compliance experience in the transportation sector
  • Bachelor’s degree in Urban Planning, Civil Engineering, Transportation Planning, or a related field
  • Professional certification or PE preferred (i.e., American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) or PTOE certification)

The base salary range for this position is $90,000 to $108,000 for Virginia and DC offices. This offer is determined based on a number of job-related factors including internal comparators, skills, education, training, credentials, experience, scope and complexity of role responsibilities and geographic location.
