Good Greetings Ms. Shadai, Its good to hear that you're interesting in attending one of our beloved HBCUs. Since you'll be graduating in June 2011, I would like to know how any HBCUs are you applying and what will you be majoring in at this point? Depending on what your cumulative GPA and SAT/ACT score, its a majoring deteriming factor if you get award a full or partial scholarship. Not including that having a strong admissions essay as well. If you decide not to attend an HBCUs to that of the Traditionally White Institution(TWI), you should definitely receive a full scholarship providing that your GPA, ACT/SAT score, and admissions essay warrants it. Keep in mind its not about being admitting into any school, because you already know that you're going to get admitted. You just have focus how it will be funded and which school environment will be more receptive to your particular academic interests. On another note, what do you think are some of the main reasons why many students in the Detroit Public Schools are taking advantage of being school and reaching his/her full academic potential(in your opinion)? Do you think coming from a lower socioeconomic background have anything to do with their academic performance? Also, do you think being subconsciously manipulated to embrace the most negatve part of our Black community and to embrace "anti-intellectual" mindset plays a significant role to what we see currently? In sum, I look forward in hearing your response. Hotep(Peace)! Michael B. Bakeley,MPA PhD Candidate Politics and Higher Education Morgan State University Baltimore, MD P.S. I'm originally from Detroit and I lived on the Eastside(i.e., the Harper/Van Dyke area and I didn't attend Detroit Kettering. I graduated from Detroit Southeastern)
