My name is Ashley Thompson and I am a freshmen. I choose to attend Bethune after realizing that attending a historically black College would benefit me and prepare me for the real world. After I graduate, I plan to attend Meharry Medical College in Nashville, Tennessee. My dream is to become a pediatrician; this has been an aspiration of mine since I was ten years old. After my mom passed away from breast cancer, I made it my mission to help find a cure for cancer and help others get over sickness and disease to live a more healthy and productive life. Being a biology major helps me to further my studies in a field that I can research and find efficient results.
Some organizations that I am proud to be a part of is (BLAST) building lives and solutions together. Blast is a nonprofit organization that helps embrace families and bring them together by providing them with counseling, activities, games and food. I am also an active mentor in the �Big Brothers Big Sister� program and I volunteer at the public library in my home town. Being involved in the community is very important because it helps me to open a door for others which will make a difference now and in years to come.
I have so many goals that I would like to achieve now and in the future. Our environment is very important but it is often overlooked. A start would be to preserve and strengthen wildlife by planting trees to fight against climate change. Another goal of mine would be to travel to New Orleans and help build houses for underprivileged families. Currently, I am trying to spread the word about President Obama�s recovery plan so that we save energy, preserve wildlife, and protect the community.
