About   (request update)
Dr. Stull is an Assistant Professor and Researcher in Nutrition and Diabetes Prevention at Pennington Biomedical Research Center in Baton Rouge, LA. Her research focus is on botanical dietary supplementation and its impact on insulin resistance (i.e., pre-diabetes). Specifically, Dr. Stull found that insulin sensitivity was improved after consuming blueberries for 6 weeks in a population with pre-diabetes, and these results were published in the Journal of Nutrition. Based on her significant findings, she received a grant from the National Institutes of Health, National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine to continue her blueberry research. Dr. Stull has published her research studies in peer-reviewed journals, wrote book chapters, and reviewed manuscripts, grants, and documents for scholarly journals, federal agencies, and professional organizations. She has presented her research findings at various national and international scientific conferences. Additionally, she successfully created and moderated an educational symposium entitled “Successful Scientist: What’s the winning formula?” at the 2014 Experimental Biology Conference (will be published in the Journal of Nutrition, Fall 2014). Her professional memberships include the American Society for Nutrition, American Diabetes Association, and Network of Minority Research Investigators. Also, she is a proud member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.

Dr. Stull is currently very involved with her alma mater (Southern University and A&M College). She serves on several committees in the Human Nutrition and Food department. Annually, Dr. Stull lectures to the dietetic interns on various obesity and diabetes topics, her latest research project results, preparation for the registered dietitian exam, how to network, and job opportunities for registered dietitians. In 2008, Dr. Stull was invited as the keynote speaker at the Dietetic Internship graduation.

Dr. Stull received her B.S. in Family and Consumer Sciences with an emphasis in Human Nutrition and Food, and Registered Dietitian certification from Southern University and A&M College in Baton Rouge, LA. Then she obtained her Ph.D. in Nutrition Science with a minor in Gerontology from Purdue University in West Lafayette, IN. Her graduate training was followed by a postdoctoral fellowship in Diabetes and Nutrition at Pennington Biomedical. During her fellowship she was honored with the NIH Postdoctoral Professional Development and Enrichment Award.
