Dr. Jessie Guinn is the Assistant Academic Dean of STEM in The College of Global Studies. In this role, Dr. Guinn is responsible for coordinating, researching, developing, promoting and recruiting for the academic programs in the STEM fields including Pre-Health & Pre-Medicine. In collaboration with the Academic Dean, Director of Strategic Development, Director of Enrollment Management and Assistant Directors of Institutional Relations, he is the principal contact person with academic programs, faculty and administration in colleges and universities in the United States and abroad.

A native of Houston, Texas, Jessie is a graduate of Alcorn State University with a B.S. in Biology/Pre-Medicine and Kent State University where he earned the Ph.D in Physiology/Biomedical Sciences studying circadian rhythms and reward pathways in the brain. He has also been an IRACDA Postdoctoral Fellow at Northwestern University’s Feinberg School of Medicine where he researched the neural biology of associative learning in the mammalian brain and an administrative Postdoctoral Research Associate at Kent State University.

Prior to joining The College of Global Studies, Jessie served as the Assistant Director of the STEM Research & Education Center and the scholarship administrator of a National Science Foundation STEM Scholarship (NSF S-STEM) program at Kent State University. As Assistant Director, he was responsible for collaborating and establishing partnerships with faculty, staff and external entities to promote, develop and execute STEM initiatives on and off campus for the STEM Center in the Colleges of Arts and Sciences and Education, Health and Human Services. Jessie has also worked with the Upward Bound Math Science Trio Program and been responsible for the development and administration of STEM education and outreach initiatives to pre-college, collegiate and graduate students via the Department of Biological Sciences and the College of Arts and Sciences at Kent State.
