Deatrice Synita [Patterson] Besong was born on Thanksgiving Day, 24 November 1960 in West Palm Beach, FL. She is a 1977 graduate of Twin Lakes HS. Deatrice has lived in the Metropolitan DC area since 1981, currently residing in Melwood Park, Upper Marlboro, Gorgeous Prince George’s County, MD. She holds a B.S. degree in Business Administration w/a Minor in Accounting from Fayetteville State University [FSU], NC where she graduated 12 May 1985 and served as the Class President. She has also completed graduate course via Clemson University’s Women's Professional Development Program.

On 18 December 1981, Deatrice was initiated into the Delta Alpha Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha [AKA] Sorority, Incorporated. This year marks her 28th anniversary as an AKA woman. She has been employed with the U.S. Department of Navy, Naval Audit Service [six years] and the USDA Office of Inspector General [three years] as an Auditor; and USDA’s Foreign Agricultural Service [FAS] where she served as a Compliance Officer [12 years]. As a Compliance Officer she has traveled to more than 300 countries which expanded six of the seven continents. She is still employed w/FAS as a Policy Analyst.

At the age of ten, she gave her life to Christ. She is an active member of the First Baptist Church of Highland Park, Landover, MD where she currently serves in the following ministries: Diaconate Ministry, Servants for Christ, Jesus & Me Youth Ministry, The Inspirational Voices, Pastor’s Partners, Praise Team and Women for Christ Ministry where she previously served as its 1st Vice President.

Ms. Besong joined Miriam Chapter No. $, OES-PHA in 1995 and has held the following positions: Worthy Matron-2008-2009, Associate Matron-2007, Associate Conductress-2006, Three year Trustee, Two Year Trustee, Chairman of Trustee, Warder, and Marshall. She is also a member of Mecca Court No. 2, Daughter of Isis; Charter Member, Ladies of the Circle of Perfection, Deborah Court No. 1; Thornton A. Jackson Court No. 1, Heroines of Jericho; Richard Howell Gleaves, Assembly #2, Order of the Golden Circle all of Prince Hall Affiliation, Washington, District of Columbia Jurisdiction.

Other organizational memberships includes the National Council of Negro Women [Life], Blacks in Government [Life, Gold Plus], and FSU Alumni Association [Life]. Ms. Besong has served as a volunteer at the Maryland Network against Domestic Violence, bowie, MD.

Well, well, well...I hv traveled six of the seven continents and 300+ countries. To top that off, I am the youngest of two...my sister is 29 years older than me...

Most Memorable Moment:

Becoming an Alpha Kappa Alpha woman, Fall 1981; being elected senior class president of the Class of 1985; and dressing up in all of my various costumes during homecoming and other worthwhile campus events...can u say....BRONCO PRIDE...!!!
