Claim To Fame:
While at my Home by the Sea, I accomplished many things and met many, many wonderful people. Hampton Univeristy taught me to love Black women, and taught me that it's always OK to say, "Hello." - - - However, even these pale in comparison to what Hampton has given me since I have left. I was focused on my goal of becoming a doctor - so much so that I became arrogant and reclusive during my senior year. I lost the respect of some whose opinions I cherished. . . then I went to medical school and fell flat on my face. Those true friends forgave me, and their love has buoyed me in these years that have followed. - - - I have since grown a new level of respect and love for myself, and in my trials I have discovered a Strength within that I did not know existed. . . I learned NEVER to quit, for I can endure all things. My time at Hampton helped teach me those things, and for those things I am eternally grateful.
Most Memorable Moment:
August 1989: A young boy on an ROTC scholarship arrives at Hampton for the first time ever and discovers there is no dorm room available . . . Major Vann scratches his head to find a space, and the young man's mother grows ever more vocal in her agitation. Our young freshman looks at the Beautiful Black Sistahs walking past Stone, and soothes his mother with these words: "It'll be OK, Ma. It'll be OK . . . . " {AH, HAMPTON in the SUMMERTIME!!!}
