Im Imani,

I am seventeen years old and i am a senior (2010). High school for me started off pretty rocky. When I first started high school i was not focused the least bit and i thought everything revolved around being social and having fun. Originally from Newport News, VA now living in New Jersey i came to Jersey and I hated. I would say that my stubborness and depression had alot to do with my lack of wanting to do well in school. I hated New Jersey sooo much. During freshman year I convinced my mother to allow me to move back down south to stay with my grandmother for high school where I then attending my zoned high school Denbigh High. When I went to Denbigh i felt like I was at party central. I was so excited to be reunited with my friends after I hadn't seen them for a while due to me living in New Jersey, and allowed myself to get off track. I skipped and did everything but go to school ! My grandmother then sent me back to live with my mother and I stayed in Jersey. New Jersey then started to grow on me but still i thought everything was about being social and doing everything but care about school ! I can actually say that I didn't get serious about my high school education until i was a junior and even more serious about it as a senior. I was diagnosed with ADHD at 5 or 6. ADHD was very hard with me to deal with it. I felt that it was no way in hell that I could be capable of being a A student. My attention span was the shortest (in my eyes) and if i wasn't having fun then I didnt' care. When I got to 11th grade my mother decided to look in to a different school for me where I wasn't distracted by my friends and i could excel. She found one =] I really wish that I could have started my high school career over but I refuse to give up. I am currently working really hard to reach my dream of being the beautiful and successful black young woman that I know i can be =]
