Introduction
Ms. Harris, a Prince George’s County Social Innovation Fund “Forty under 40” cohort for 2015, has always been a trailblazer and is the first in her immediate family to attend college. She attended Virginia State University; a Historically Black College and University (HBCU) to gain the experience she needed to progress in her career. Ms. Harris initially joined VSUAA – Northern Virginia Chapter after graduation from Virginia State University. She became fully engaged in assisting the VSUAA program committee, scholarship committee and lending her service for the graphic design for the VSUAA – Northern Virginia Chapter scholarship dance tickets and flyer. She faithfully attends Reid Temple African Methodist Episcopal Church in Glendale, MD. She has two godchildren that are the joys of her life and her parents and twin brother resides in Ford, Virginia.
Personal Achievements
Ms. Harris is a financial member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., Upsilon Tau Omega Chapter in Fort Washington, Maryland and currently serves as the Business Manager (2014-2015) with responsibility for overseeing liability policies, reviewing contracts, and securing venue space for chapter and executive committee events. She also serves on the Information Technology (IT) committee for the North Atlantic Region and completed the Anne Mitchem Davis Officer Institute in April 2014 at the convening of the North Atlantic Region conference.
Ms. Harris was the former secretary of the Prince George’s County Young Democrats under the leadership of The Prince George’s County Young Democrats is an organization devoted to increasing political and social activism throughout the county. PGCYD promotes the principles of the Democratic Party, while working on issues that are important to the residents of Prince Georges County. PGCYD members receive training and experience to be future leaders. She has worked on several campaigns to include, Tamara Davis Brown, Esq.; helping Democratic candidates get elected, and advocate on issues of interest to young voters.
January 2014, Ms. Harris was selected to be a protégé with Women in Technology (WIT) which offers dynamic personal growth and a platform for professional women to be mentored by experienced professionals in engineering.
Professional Accomplishments
After beginning a prominent career at Electronic Data Systems, Ms. Harris pursued her Masters degree in information systems technology from The George Washington University in Washington, D.C. and completed her coursework in December 2003.
Ms. Harris is currently an Information Systems Security Officer (ISSO) at Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). She prides herself with a career of over ten years working in Cyber Security. She has been in several functional roles with increasing responsibility and served as the team lead in prior roles. At the National Geospatial–Intelligence Agency (NGA) she ran a team of up to 10 individuals and aided in the successful $1.77 billion implementation of the NGA New Campus East project for the agency. She was awarded the Exceptional Performance Award in June 2012 and received a cash award for her hard work.
Ms. Harris has extensive overseas travel experience to over 11 countries and was instrumental in the setting up of a force protection infrastructure post 9/11. Her employer at that time, Electronic Data Systems (EDS), secured a contract to provide five years of installation access control systems (IACS) for all of the European bases throughout, Germany, Belgium, Netherlands and Italy. Ms. Harris was the team lead of one of the implementation teams and successfully met all deadlines established; completing the task on time and within budget. Her efforts were rewarded at a formal ceremony in Germany.
Each year, Women of Color (WOC) magazine recognizes women who have excelled in Technology. These women have demonstrated exceptional achievement in their workplaces and communities. Ms. Harris was selected as a 2012 Technology Rising Star where she accepted her award at a formal ceremony in Dallas, Texas.
She is currently a member of the Prince George’s County Unit of the National Association of Parliamentarians (NAP) where she desires to uphold standards and keep order in organizations to which she belongs. She plans to certify as a registered parliamentarian. She is also the Secretary of Maryland Homeowner’s Association (MHA) where she is assisting the bylaws committee with an overhaul of their governing documents.
Community Service
Ms. Harris is a well-rounded professional and prides herself on balance and leadership opportunities in her community as well. She has served as the homeowners’ association president of Brinkley Towns for almost nine years by which she took the association from a budget of $30,000 to now having assets of over $153,000, and has recouped over 50% of the accounts that were in arrears.
She recently served as the Chairman of a cabaret which profited the organization over $7,000. The money raised will benefit 2015 high school graduates in their quest for higher education. She also has served on the SPGCCC, Inc. scholarship committee.
She was a termed Vice President of her sorority chapter from 2010-2011 and made great strides in building community partnerships with Mel Franklin and Obie Patterson and reaching the underprivileged in Districts 8 and 9 of Southern Prince George’s County, MD. Ms. Harris won the distinguished honor of Soror of the Year in that same chapter as well.
Ms. Harris was invited to the 3rd annual Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) program at Accokeek Middle School in Accokeek, Maryland sponsored by the Science Department where she introduced the students to the discipline of STEM, and encouraged each to conduct research on areas of interest. She looks forward to assisting with grant opportunities for the school in collaboration with General Dynamics Corporation; as they convert to a full STEM curriculum.
Most recently Ms. Harris was appointed as the Parliamentarian for the Reid Temple Senior Services, Inc. Board of Directors from 2015-2018. The board is charged to conduct and manage the affairs of the Reid Temple Senior Services, and to make rules and regulations consistent with law, Articles of Incorporation, and the Bylaws as we move to a 501 C 3 status.

She was also appointed by Congresswoman Donna Edwards (4th District – Maryland) to serve on her Advisory Committee for 2015 where she is tasked with sharing expertise and the community’s perspective, which will be used to shape the Congresswoman’s legislative and constituent services agendas.
Jaunese Harris is no stranger to hard work and has demonstrated consistent dedication to her community. She is willing to help anyone in any situation and in modeling after the words of Ecclesiastes 9:10a (NIV): Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with all your might, she makes sure that whatever she finds to do she is helpful to others.
