Introduction/Personal/Professional Goals: I am CPT Kerry L. Taylor; I
am applying/interested in the Ed.D in Higher Education and Adult Learning
at Walden University. I grew up on a farm in Utica, Miss. Early on I had
several mentors to teach the ways of life and why a good education was
important. My interest in science dates back to my years in high school,
where I excelled in physics, chemistry, and math. When I was a senior, I
took a first-year calculus course at a local college (such an advanced-level
class was not available in high school) and earned an A. It seemed only
logical that I pursue a career in science/engineering.
Academic/Military Experience: I obtain my A.A.S degree in
Electronics/Computer Technology from Utica Junior College, B.S in
Computer Science, and M.S in Science Education from Jackson State
University respectfully. I have taught Computer Science for nine years and
presently a Professor of Military Science at the University of Memphis. I
have over 24 years in the Army and presently serving in the Tennessee
Guard as a Communications/Engineering Officer.
When I began my undergraduate career, I had the opportunity to be
exposed to the full range of science/engineering courses, all of which
tended to reinforce and solidify my intense interest in engineering. I've also
had the opportunity to study a number of subjects in the
humanities/education and they have been both enjoyable and enlightening,
providing me with a new and different perspective on the world in which we

live.
Research/work Experience: In the realm of engineering, I have
developed a special interest in the field of electronics, computer science and
have had graduate courses in education. Another particular interest of mine
is statistical methods. I was a technical/graduate assistant at Jackson State
University, I learned about its many practical applications, especially in
relation to statistical applications in education. Management at this lab was
sufficiently impressed with my work to ask that I return when I graduate. I
was offered a job offer with the Army Corps of Engineers. I have over 14
years experience with the Army Corps of Engineers where I was employed
as an Engineering Technician and Physical Scientist. I intend to start work
on my Ed.D. Higher Education and Adult Learning at Walden University.
Later I would like to work in the area of Education in research and
development at the University level. It is in R & D that I believe I can make
the greatest contribution, utilizing my theoretical background and creativity
as a scientist/educator.
Personal Qualities: I have been a follower as well a leader; one must be
both in order to be successful. Since my upbringing on small farm in Utica,
Miss. My family has taught me the meaning of hard work, ethics, selfless
service and dedication to God and Country. I know my interpersonal skills,
teamwork skills, leadership skills etc from the U.S Army training would
make me successful at Walden University and at the University level.
Be Motivated when times gets tough! Being Versatile, creative and a critical thinker
Most Memorable Moment:
Being the first in my family to walk across the stage during Graduation in May 1985
High School: Hinds AHS in ,
class of 1980
Activities & Accomplishments:
