Scholarship Essay: 2025-08-20 16:38:07
I chose to attend a Historically Black College and University because I wanted to be in an environment that supports, understands, and uplifts students like me. Attending an HBCU means being part of a legacy that values education, culture, and community. I knew I needed a space where I would not just be a number in a classroom, but where I would be seen, heard, and encouraged to grow both academically and personally.

At Texas Southern University, I have found just that. The sense of pride, unity, and history on campus inspires me every day. I am surrounded by people who look like me and share many of the same life experiences, and that makes a big difference. My professors are not only committed to teaching, but also to mentoring and preparing students for success beyond college. They believe in our potential, and that motivates me to work harder.

Being in this environment has helped me stay focused on my goals. I am currently majoring in Emergency Management and Homeland Security because I want to work in disaster relief and help rebuild communities that have been impacted by crisis. My HBCU has given me confidence in my ability to lead and serve. It has taught me the value of giving back, of using my education to lift others up.

Attending an HBCU is more than just earning a degree. It is about being part of a community that wants to see you win. I believe that this experience is preparing me to go out into the world not only with knowledge, but with a strong sense of purpose and pride in who I am.
