Life & Professional Aspirations:
Wayne "Tree" Rollins is one of the Clemson basketball program's most famous alumni. He dominated inside play on the hardwood for the Tigers from 1973 to 1977 and was an intimidating and prolific shot blocker and rebounder. Behind Rollins' forceful play, the Tigers improved each year he was on the team. Over his career, Rollins averaged a double-double for four straight seasons (the only Clemson player to do so). He was a three-time second-team All-ACC selection and a third-team All-American in 1976-77 (the first Clemson basketball player to earn a spot on an AP All-American team). At the conclusion of his career, he had started in a then-record 110 straight games for Clemson. His career numbers at Clemson easily speak for themselves. He is Clemson's career rebounding leader with 1,311 and still ranks fifth in ACC history. He is the third ranked player in ACC history with 450 blocked shots, however he is first on a per game basis. He is ranked fourth in career double-doubles at Clemson with 85 and is one of only two Clemson players in history to record a triple-double (twice doing it with blocked shots). After leaving Clemson, he was drafted with the 14th overall pick of the 1977 NBA Draft by the Atlanta Hawks. Playing 11 seasons with the Hawks, Rollins ranks fourth in club history in rebounding, first in blocked shots, and third in games played. He was the first Clemson athlete to have his jersey retired, as his number-30 was placed in the rafters prior to his final home game. A member of the ACC's 50-Year Anniversary team, Rollins was inducted into the Clemson Hall of Fame in 1987. Tree Rollins College - Clemson "Tree" Rollins brings more than 26 years of NBA experience to the Indiana Pacers’ bench. Prior to joining the Pacers as an assistant coach in 2000, Rollins served as the only assistant coach for the Washington Wizards during the last half of the season. Before joining the Wizards, he served as an assistant coach for the Orlando Magic from 1993-1999. During the 1994-95 season, he served a dual role of assistant coach/player for the Magic. Rollins also served as the head coach of the NBA’s Pre-Draft Camp held in Chicago, where he was responsible for player development, as well as game and opponent preparation. In 1997, he represented the NBA on its South Africa Tour, which also featured former Pacers’ player Dale Davis and the Hawks’ Dikembe Mutombo. The tour involved youth basketball camps, clinics and motivational speeches. Before becoming a full-time coach, Rollins saw action with five different teams -- Atlanta (11 seasons), Cleveland (two seasons), Detroit (one season), Houston (two seasons), as well as Orlando. In his 18-year playing career, Rollins played in 1,156 games and averaged 2.2 blocks per game, for a total of 2,542 blocks, which currently ranks in the all-time Top 10 in the NBA. In his first nine seasons, he ranked among the top 10 shot blockers, and led the league with 343 blocks in 1981-82. Rollins earned First Team All-Defensive honors in 1983-84 and second team honors in 1982-83. A 1977 graduate of Clemson University, Rollins was selected as the 14th pick overall of the NBA Draft by the Atlanta Hawks.
