Q&A With Jonathan George

(interview me)
Jonathan George
Student Intern, SenegalStyle

Location: Pensacola, FL United States
Joined: Sep 8th, 2011
About   (request update)
I came to Senegal in 1999 with my mom, brother and sister. I don't even want to go back to the US. It's crazy there now and I'd prefer to stay here and make my fortune.

My mom is a big influence on me, came here, couldn't speak the language and created jobs for herself and others so we could survive and thrive here Africa. I want to do the same for her.
Current Whereabouts:
West African Tourism, African clothing & drums, African herbals (for healing, not smoking!), retail and wholesale African products ('google' SenegalStyle & AfricanHerbal) and TRYING to help people start their own businesses... which is difficult because everyone is looking for a full time job rather than doing for self. I have a line of 'greek' fundraising items that will make someone very rich, if only I could find a distributor willing to work a little bit...
Life & Professional Aspirations:
I want to help other students see that the life they are living, they don't have to. There are other alternatives.

Education   (request update)
High School: William J Woodham High School in Pensacola,, FL class of 1979

Activities & Accomplishments:
Getting thru that racist school with my self worth shaken, but still inside me.
Best Memories:
Being the contributing cause to a race riot started by a white boy calling me 'Kizzie' on the school bus... I'm very proud of that because after I took care of one, my black brothers took care of the rest and a few more that had lost their minds over the years. After that, we (blacks) were able to more freely join the white clubs and prom committee. We had our first black band that year. I'm very proud of being instrumental (no pun intended!) in having intimidated, along with a couple of other sistas and a brother or two if I recall correctly, to get the others outvoted. Fast forward 10 years and I'm a small business owner, having moved back to that community. My store helped sponsor a separate 10 year high school reunion rather than going to the 'official' one!! I had forgotten about that but it's very important because the white reunion committee felt they didn't need our input (I guess they were still mad about the prom!). We didn't need theirs either and had a great time at ours! Black Power Still Rules The Day If You Use It Properly!
