I chose to attend an HBCU because I wanted to be a part of Black excellence. In high school the I knew that I wanted to attend an Historically Black College or University because I wanted to be around people that are like me and are intelligent. I wanted to go somewhere that I wasn’t just another number. I wanted to be somewhere where the professors cared. I wanted to be somewhere where race was not a limiting factor for me. I wanted to fulfill my true capabilities and perform at my best. I wanted to go to one of the best HBCU’s in the country and Howard University was one of the top schools to apply to. There was so much history deeply rooted there. Plus the location was the epitome of excellence. Attending Howard University will help me meet my future goals in life personally by allowing me to succeed. My future goals were to attend a wonderful Historically Black College or University and receive an education out of this world. Now that I am a junior at Howard University, it has provided me with tools that I do not believe I would have received anywhere other than a HBCU. Personally I am more proud of myself and my skin color than I ever was before. There is so much diversity even as Black people that I did not know exists. I would not have been able to learn the “other” black/African history that my high school did not teach. Professionally, there are so many great Black people that have graduated from HBCU’s. It is a great thing to see people like you succeed and that are intelligent. I am in the field of education and health so it’s wonderful to have experiences and people teaching me that not only went to HBCU’s but give back and teach them as well. Here at Howard University I learn to work with my people.

How is the campus life at Howard? I am going to be attending in the fall of this year. I found this site and I thought if I looked up people at my school I could get a better feel of things.
