(interview me)
Stan Holland
Campus Operations Officer, Berkeley College

Location: Newark, NJ United States
Joined: Jan 17th, 2012
About   (request update)
Mr. Holland is a senior level management executive with over 20 years of experience in strategic and operational management, managing diversity, consumer product and service marketing, business development, education & training, and small business development. He has extensive experience in domestic/international P&L management driving market share, revenue and profit growth. He successfully led a franchise operation startup with outstanding financial results, a non-profit turnaround from stagnation to a leader, and a branch of an internationally acclaimed profit machine to significant growth while reducing costs through the use of technology and a new service model. He possesses a superior strategic aptitude and is a visionary with a clear sense of purpose and urgency. He has a talent for making rapid assessments of diverse situational challenges and then developing and leading a plan of action.
He is currently the Campus Operations Officer of the Newark and Middlesex campuses of Berkeley College. He also provides supervisory control of three additional campuses in New York and New Jersey with enrollments that range from 650 to over 3500 students respectively. Mr. Holland spearheaded the startup of the Newark and the Brooklyn, NY campuses. He is the only person to have done so in the 85 year history of the institution. He has been actively participating in all facets of campus and community life since the campus was newly opened in September 2006. Professionally, his concern for the students of Berkeley College’s Newark Campus is consistent with the finest academic leadership in helping to forge lives of purpose, discipline and success, while his work with and for his employee appears to be of the most professional caliber.
The Newark Campus was awarded the 2009 Teamwork Award. The award consisted of a plaque and a monetary amount of $1,000. The COO and his entire team decided to award half the amount ($500) to a needy student and the other half ($500) was pledged to the Haiti Relief Fund.
He has promoted networks and partnerships with over 150 government agencies and over 300 private businesses nation-wide. He has developed, implemented and managed the activities of a small business incubator for small business development which resulted in over 60 new business start-ups throughout the state of New Jersey.
His training and skills as both a leader and a senior level executive were built on the foundation of a 24-year military career followed by a series of proven progressive assignments with corporate and non- profit organizations. Previously, where he served as Managing Consultant for DBM, a world-wide outplacement firm where planned, organized and executed delivery of outplacement consultant services to executives from an array of Fortune 500 companies nationally. He met with top Fortune 500 customers, built credibility and demonstrated DBM’s delivery capability that consistently exceeded annual service and revenue targets.
Mr. Holland has been a volunteer for the Boy Scouts of America – Newark’s Historic Robert Treat District since their re-invigoration of city scouting in 2007, serving as a District Vice-Chairman for Volunteer Recruitment. Stan has consistently motivated members of the Newark leadership community to lend their skills, talent and time to Boy Scouts of America efforts in Newark. He benefited greatly from the program as a youth, and understands fully both the characteristics needed in a mentor, and the needs of young men for long-term mentors such as Scoutmasters. He willingly communicates these concepts as one of the most eloquent spokesmen in Newark for the Boy Scouts of America program, and is an essential voice in our plan to enroll 5,000 youth members and 1500 adult volunteers by 2013.
Beyond the Newark Scouting program, he lends a clear and refreshing, yet seasoned, voice to public policy debate within the City of Newark as a member of the Leadership Newark Class of 2009. More broadly, he is recognized within the Newark civic community as a tireless supporter of worthy causes, and enjoys the goodwill of the community’s leaders. His ethic, experience, stature and intellect allow him to forcefully champion worthy causes in New Jersey’s largest city and beyond while being graciously catholic at the same time.
Mr. Holland earned his MBA from Florida Institute of Technology and his BA from Hampton University in political science and English. He also studied engineering on a special year assignment from the military at Georgia Institute of Technology. Mr. Holland is an advocate of lifelong learning as attested by his years in academia which has run concurrently with his military and business pursuits. Mr. Holland has served as an adjunct professor, consultant, and business development director. He has held positions on the faculty at the University of Maryland (Korea, Germany and Baltimore campuses), Florida Institute of Technology, Coppin State College, Harford Community College, Dundalk Community College, Bergen Community College, Baltimore City and Newark Public Schools.
His civic and volunteer activities include membership in the American Society for Training and Development, Board Member and Chair of Strong Kids Campaign at the Newark YMCA, Board of Trustee for the Newark Regional Business Partnership, Board member for Leadership Newark, and the Newark Museum’s Corporate Community Council. He is member of the National Black MBA Association, the National Association of College and University Business Officers and the Association of Continuing Higher Education. Research has always been a major component of his work and he continues to use the Internet, Lexis/Nexis and other tools to prepare position papers, statements and to develop policy initiatives and to research major institutions of higher learning and corporations. He has been selected by KPMG Peat Marwick’s PHD Project to pursue his doctoral degree in business.
