Kara Washington is a native of Dallas, TX and a 2011 graduate of Frisco Wakeland High School, where she was a member of the Girls Basketball Team (State-Runner Up in 2010), National Honor Society and National Technical Honor Society. She was also involved in Leaders of Tomorrow and Pearls and Ivy where she was crowned “Miss Pearls and Ivy 2011”. She is currently a participant in the Information Technology Career Foundation Program for Boeing in Charleston, SC.

Kara is a graduate of Spelman College and received her Bachelors of Science in Mathematics in May of 2015. While in college, Kara was a member of the Mu Pi Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., the Math Club, National Society of Success and Leadership, the Ready to Launch Program, and also served as a Women in Technology Campus Ambassador. She had the privilege of participating in the Cultural Vistas Stem Launch Study Tour to Germany and also traveled to the Bahamas, the Dominican Republic, Guatemala, Columbia, Costa Rica and Mexico on the Winter Enrichment Voyage-Semester at Sea Program with Morehouse College.

In her community, Kara is a mentor at the South Carolina Juvenile Detention Center and is also a speaker for Boeing’s DreamLearners community programs. She also just started a venture with her sister, Kayla Washington, entitled “Beauty and Brains” a YouTube channel that focuses on providing you with the tools to invest in yourself and the confidence to express yourself. Their videos include personal and professional development, product reviews, tutorials, and much more!

Kara’s passions lie with talent management, early career development, diversity & inclusion as well as STEM outreach and she has hopes of returning to academia and becoming a President of a College or University. She is currently working on both her Masters in Management – Human Resource Management and a Certificate in Leadership and Management from the University of Maryland – University College and plans on pursuing her PhD in the near future.
Kara lives by Jeremiah 29:11: “For I know the plans I have for you”, declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” She is grateful for all the she has been able to accomplish thus far in life and wants to encourage others to continue dreaming big!
