When I received my academic scholarship from Livingstone College I didn’t know anything about the school and never been to the state of North Carolina but I had faith that this was my ticket out of poverty. I took the Greyhound bus to North Carolina spending my last on the ticket arriving to a new state with nothing but my high school diploma, three bags, and 2 dollars in change to call the admissions counselor to come get me from the bus station. Within the next two days I seen the power of God where one of my aunts sent me some money and I refrigerator, another aunt bought me a television, another one of my aunts bought me my first laptop. Within three days I was comfortably settled and ambitious on what I had ahead of me and the confidence to accomplish anything. Now here I am graduating in May with a 3.7 GPA Summa Cum Laude top of my class, a family, and enthusiastic about my next journey. I know I'm a special individual especially coming for the poverty streets of New Orleans but I have so much ahead of me and most of all I'm excited about life itself.
Current Whereabouts:
I am currently into obtaining a higher education in a MBA/JD dual program as well as being a servant to my surrounding community. I have my own catering business; Kavier Katering in which I cook New Orleans style plate’s available for all students and staff on my college campus.
Life & Professional Aspirations:
My life aspirations is first to be financially independent as a versatile Entrepreneur. I plan on attending law school to receive my Masters in Business Administration and a Jurors Doctors degree in a dual program. As a professional I will not stop reaching for higher education until I am Dr. Ashton Language which the knowledge, credentials, and experience to get into whatever field of human endeavor God needs from me. "Education is the key out of poverty, the more education you have the farther you get away from it." - Ashton Language
I came to Livingstone College from my hometown New Orleans on an Academic Honors Scholarship. My first semester in college I accomplished my personal goal of a 4.0 GPA granting me the Presidential Scholarship. That following summer in July 2009 my school president Dr. Jimmy R. Jenkins and I created a community service project. I lead more than 40 faculty and students to New Orleans for a week of community service where we helped rebuild homes for families affected by Hurricane Katrina, volunteered at The French Quarter Festival, and renovated the Museum of the American Cocktail. This was the start of my philanthropist career as an academic scholar student.
Most Memorable Moment:
My most beloved and cherished college moment is when we went down to my hometown of New Orleans and conducted a severe week of community service and when I finally crossed Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Incorporated.
High School: Helen Cox High in Harvey, LA
class of 2008
Activities & Accomplishments:
I graduated high school with a 3.3 GPA on the honor roll as well as being in our school's African American History Club.
Best Memories:
My best high school moment is when I transferred back to New Orleans from Houston because I wanted to graduate with close friends and family. I transferred during my school's senior week and I had to take the state test the whole week missing my senior week. There was one more field trip for a class I was not in but the teacher knew I missed my senior week and granted me to come along. It was the best high school moment in my life and me transferring and missing my senior week was well worth it for this one trip and I will never forget that joy I felt that day.
