Since a young boy, I always wanted to go far away from my hometown. I wanted to gain a experience of just being away from my family and my surroundings. Going to an HBCU was a thought, however going far away from my home and my parents was my main concern. It wasn’t until I grew a little older and realized that HBCU’s had a positive impact on different communities. My mother and I went to the college of love and charity for the first time, Florida A&M University during their spring preview. Because of the spring preview I made the decision, this needed to be my home for the next four years. I was welcomed by orientation leaders who showed they cared for the illustrious University. Florida A&M University has a business program that is respected a crossed the nation. The students spoke nothing but great things about the business program. Many continued to say “because of the program they grew leadership skills.” From getting internships from fortune 100 companies to being offered full time positions while still in college, I saw that this University had many opportunities for me. This is why I knew that I needed to attend an HBCU.

Going to Florida A&M University will help me with my future goals in life personally because I have grown as a young man. With myself being active on campus from being an RA, peer mentor, and now an orientation leader; I know how to lead and get others motivated to do well with their academics. A personal goal of mine since I have been in college has been to increase enrollment at my University. With young men seeing how I am doing great things they will see how coming to an HBCU can benefit them. Coming to Florida A&M University will help my future goals professionally because I am gaining professionally leadership skills through the School of Business & Industry. Because of the School of Business & Industry, I will be able to successful open a mentor program for the youth.
