Speaking in front of 10,000 people is one experience in my life that will be hard to forget. I vividly remember explaining my dream to become a cardiologist to my church congregation. This has only intensified my desire to achieve this long-term career goal. Prolonging the life of cardiac patients and reducing the number one cause of death in the United States are just two satisfying aspects of my career goal. I know my journey will be challenging, but “anything worth having is definitely worth working for.”

To work towards fulfilling my career goal, I decided to further my education at a Historically Black College and University. Legacy—the main reason why I chose to attend the illustrious Tuskegee University. As the third generation in my family to attend Tuskegee University, I feel entitled and truly honored to be able to continue the academic success and renowned reputation of my family. It’s a privilege to walk the historic campus of Tuskegee University considering the struggles and challenges that Booker T. Washington endured to receive an education and provide the same opportunity for other African Americans.

In addition, my education at Tuskegee University will adequately prepare me for medical school. The rigorous coursework, a nurturing family environment, high expectations of professors, numerous extra-curricular activities, and a plethora of networking opportunities will definitely make me a well-qualified medical school candidate. I am involved with numerous organizations on campus that allow me to give back to the community.

Although my words may be soft spoken, my dreams speak amazing measures. At Tuskegee University, I have the ability to serve the community and the opportunity to equip myself with the necessary tools and life skills that I need to conquer the next chapter in my life. It is one thing to simply proclaim a goal, but to actually fulfill it would be a true testimony of my strengths and the important principles of Booker T. Washington─ hard work, dedication, and passion!
