Dr. Michael C. Owens is a global business leader, entrepreneur and information technology executive, with 20 years of experience within military, corporate, government and academic organizations. He was born in Greensboro, North Carolina and grew up Robbins, NC, a small rural town which is also the hometown of former U.S. Presidential candidate, John Edwards. A high school academic and athletic standout, Michael put college on hold and to join the US Marine Corps in 1991 to volunteer for service in Persian Gulf War conflict.
As an advocate of lifelong learning, he has continued to pursue higher levels of academic education while continuing to volunteer in the community and practice leadership in the business world.
He received his BS from North Carolina A&T State University and an Executive MBA from Georgia Institute of Technology. He received his Doctorate in Business Administration from California InterContinental University where his research focused on the interrelationship between the U.S. Department of State and U.S.-based multinational corporations. In 2011 he was selected to and participated in the first Emerging Leaders Program at Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government.
He is currently a senior manager and member of the global leadership team for SITA, an international information technology company specializing in providing IT and security services to foreign and domestic government entities and the global air transport industry. Prior to that, he pioneered the practice of technical managed services in the professional services market as the founder and president of an innovative IT consulting firm. In 2005 he was awarded with the National Leadership Award and served as the Honorary Co-Chairman on the Congressional Business Advisory Council. Earlier in his career, he held several positions within finance sector at Fidelity Investments and First Union National Bank (now Wells Fargo).
As a veteran of the United States Marine Corps, he recipient of the National Defense Service Medal for service during the Persian Gulf War. Michael is the father of 4 children and has lived in Cobb County for the last 5 years and is currently an active member in the Young Democrats of Atlanta and the current VP of Finance for the Young Democrats of Cobb County. He is also a member of the Young Leaders -World Affairs Council of Atlanta, a Citizen Diplomat with the Georgia Council of International Visitors and a member with the Black & Latino Council of America.
